The Israelites were forbidden from making statues.
The people wanted a King and a temple.
This is why the Protestant churches have no images of Mary and have an empty cross, not a crucifix.
The Protestant churches do not elevate the Saints of the Catholic church.
The Israelite people wanted to be like other nations and have a king and a temple. That did not work out so well for them.
God gave them parameters, but they still screwed up.
But God always keeps His promises and He promised them a Messiah thru the line of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and David.
So no matter how much the Israelites screwed up, God still kept His promise.

I was confounded when Trump started talking about his new statue park thing. Some of the names he mentioned being there are not even good people. Like Billy Graham. But Trump is the master troller so there's that.
