Biden nominates Ghislaine Maxwell's judge, Memphis litigator to appeals courts

President Joe Biden on Wednesday nominated the Manhattan federal judge overseeing the sex abuse trial of British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell and a Memphis litigator at the law firm Butler Snow to serve as federal appellate court judges.

The announcement came a day after U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer revealed he had recommended Biden nominate U.S. District Judge Alison Nathan for a seat on the New York-based 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Biden also nominated Andre Mathis, a partner at Butler Snow experienced in commercial and government litigation and criminal defense work, for a seat on the Cincinnati-based 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Biden has used his 64 judicial nominees to date to further diversify the bench. If confirmed, Nathan would be the second openly LGBT woman to serve on an appeals court and Mathis would be the first Black man confirmed to the 6th Circuit in 24 years.

Nathan addressed her potential nomination on Wednesday morning prior to Biden's announcement while presiding over jury selection in the trial of Maxwell, who prosecutors say recruited and groomed underage girls for deceased financier Jeffrey Epstein to abuse.

"Needless to say, I'm very honored," she said.

But Nathan stressed that she would "continue to do my day job, which means presiding over this trial until completion and handling the hundreds of other civil and criminal matters on my docket."

Maxwell has pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking and other crimes.

Jennifer Granholm Under Fire for Promoting Proterra, an Electric Vehicle Company She Served on the Board of and Held Stock in

President Joe Biden’s Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm is the subject of an ethics complaint for promoting, in her role as a member of the executive branch, an electric bus company she sat on the board of and held millions of dollars of stock in.

Granholm — who oversees moving the country toward an electric vehicle transportation system and enjoys newfound powers after the passage of Biden’s infrastructure package — is facing scrutiny for promoting Proterra, a Burlingame, California-based electric bus company she sat on the board of and held 240,520 shares of stock in, which garnered her $1.6 million when she finally divested them 157 days after her nomination.

Granholm has been criticized for promoting Proterra in her official capacity as energy secretary and for hyping grant access to companies with connections to Proterra. These critics argue that Granholm’s promotion of the company, which as of Monday had a market cap of $2.6 billion, has increased Proterra’s visibility and thereby potentially increased the value of Granholm’s stock in the company before she was required by ethics rules to sell her shares on May 24.

Fauci: People Like Tucker Carlson, Peter Navarro Who ‘Weaponize Lies Are Killing People’

Biden chief medical adviser Anthony Fauci said Tuesday on MSNBC’s “The Beat” that media figures and politicians who criticize him were “killing people.”

During his Fox News Show, Tucker Carlson said, “He decided to unilaterally end Christmas.”

During an OAN interview, former Trump administration advisor Peter Navarro said, “We want to take Fauci down and put him in an orange jumpsuit.”

Fauci said, “I’m not in it for a popularity contest. I have devoted my entire professional career of 50 years to try and safeguard and preserve the health and lives of the American people. As an infectious disease doctor who deals with outbreaks, that gets extended to the rest of the world. That’s what I do. The praise or the arrows and slings are really irrelevant. I do what science drives you to do, and that’s what I do. I’m not in it for a popularity contest. I’m trying to save lives. The people who weaponize lies are killing people. So the only question I have is that when you show Tucker Carlson and Peter Navarro criticizing me, I consider that a badge of honor.”

He added, “I just wanted to make that statement. People throw up those people that make ridiculous statements. They’re telling people to do things that they’re going to die from and telling me I should go to jail. As they say in my old neighborhood in Brooklyn, give me a break.”

Fury as controlling bureaucrats demand millions of Australians wear masks through the Christmas season even though 95% will be fully vaxxed

Masks could to remain mandatory in NSW in indoor settings for even longer

State is set to hit 95 per cent vaccination rates and has low daily case numbers

Government looking to keep masks in retail as Christmas shopping rush begins

2GB's Ben Fordham led chorus of furious backlash over bureaucrats' proposal

A proposal by health bureaucrats to extend mask wearing rules through Christmas has sparked a furious backlash.

Face coverings could remain mandatory in indoor settings in New South Wales even after the state hits the 95 per cent vaccination rate, amid concerns infections will spike in lead up to the busy festive season.

NSW government officials are looking at extending the mask mandate beyond mid-December, amid fears the virus could spread and result in a worrying new spike of infections.

Health Minister Brad Hazzard has pledged his support for the mask rule extension with the government tipped to make an announcement with days.

2GB breakfast host Ben Fordham led the growing chorus of outrage over the proposal, which he slammed as 'over-cautious'.

Senator Gerard Rennick Senate Speech - 22nd November, 2021

I'd like to start today by acknowledging all the people who have suffered injuries from the vaccines. When I signed up to become a senator 2½ years ago, I signed up to protect the Australian people and, in particular, to make sure that we always look after the health and wellbeing of those people. The name of the game with health is to make sure that everyone has a good health outcome. It's not just about the vaccine rollout and reaching targets. That's a means to an end. The end, in itself, is good health for everyone. The best people to do that are the people themselves, in consultation with their doctor. We shouldn't be having mandates imposed upon people by bureaucrats, by governments or by the media…

Fauci speaks of ‘unfinished business’ before he can retire

Top White House Covid adviser Anthony Fauci insisted his long career as a federal bureaucrat is far from over, saying retirement is simply out of the question as he looks to wrap up “unfinished business” in the world of medicine.

Asked whether he is thinking of leaving his long-held leadership post at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), the 80-year-old health official said he’s “not even remotely contemplating that right now.”

“There's a lot of unfinished business right now, so I'm not even thinking about walking away,” Fauci told Reuters in an interview on Tuesday, adding that he would like to see the end of the coronavirus pandemic, and even further progress on eradicating HIV and AIDS, before he steps away from his work.

The White House adviser also reiterated calls for the “overwhelming majority” of fully-vaccinated American adults to receive booster shots, noting that the additional dose could eventually become standard in defining what it means to be ‘fully’ immunized.

“Right now, officially, fully vaccinated equals two shots of the mRNA and one shot of the J&J, but without a doubt that could change. That's on the table for discussion,” he said, referring to Pfizer and Moderna’s vaccines which use messenger-RNA, and Johnson & Johnson’s one-dose formulation.

While an FDA advisory panel initially voted overwhelmingly against booster doses for all healthy Americans – instead greenlighting additional shots only for the elderly and certain at-risk groups – the FDA itself decided to cut the panel out of the process entirely and authorized boosters on its own last week. A similar panel with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), however, did give its blessing, with CDC Director Rochelle Walensky quickly signing off on the decision.

With universal boosters effectively authorized, all adults who received their initial two-dose round of the Pfizer or Moderna immunizations are now encouraged to take another dose within six months of their last shot. So far, an estimated 33 million Americans have received a booster.
