In the immediate months following 9/11, anon was a member of

an executive team tasked by our GOP governor of this VERY large traditionally deep blue NE state to game out every possible major terrorist attack against our state's critical infrastructure. Chief among these possible targets was the pristine water supply system of remote reservoirs which have been feeding the largest metropolitan city on the Eastern Seaboard for a century.

Another identified critical target was, like most states, our power grid system of coal, oil and nuclear power plants and the transmission lines which distributed the power throughout the state. The use of a manmade EMP along with the possible use of a stolen EMP from a country's military arsenal had to be considered.

Much of this planning had already been performed as part of our emergency response plan to a massive solar coronal mass ejection (CME) comparable to the "Carrington Event" in 1859 where a massive solar flare wiped out the early telegraph system in Canada and in the U.S. down through the South. Had the Carrington Event happened after WW II, it would have taken out every power plant in the Country.

Now the exact damage of an EMP or a solar CME to a power system occurs through the massive Ground Induced Currents (GIC) from the electromagnetic pulse which travels UPWARDS from the Earth or ground and literally melts EVERY POWER TRANSFORMER associated with every power plant. To make matters worse, these critical massive transformers are manufactured using a very special type of steel alloy called "grain-oriented" electrical steel which has a 30% higher magnetic flux density which is needed in todays massive and expensive power plant transformers.

To simplify, it is the massive and expensive power plant transformers which are "shorted-out" during any EMP attack or solar flare CME. They are literally melted from the ground up. Now to make matters even WORSE there are NO SPARE TRANSFORMERS at our Nation's power plants!! Even WORSER is the fact that there is a long waiting list to have these critical transformers made!! The turnaround time is now in excess of 12 MONTHS OR MORE!!

President Trump recognized this critical issue and anons may remember when he held the very first roundtable with the U.S. steel manufacturers to plan out a way that the U.S. Government could partner with industry to reopen as many of the Nation's mothballed steel mills as possible. Trump recognized that in the event of such a catastrophe, the U.S. would be reliant on foreign specialty steel to manufacture the many hundreds, thousands of transformers which would be needed. In the interim, the Nation would be living in the Dark Ages with very Dark Winters.

Despite Trump's greatest of intentions and energy, he was fragged in this National effort by Congress. As a result, this much needed initiative died on the vine.

Regarding incoming massive Carrington-type CMEs, the World was aided by the European Space Agency's launch of four satellites which would stand as sentries to give us a mere 30 MINUTES NOTICE that a solar Kill Shot was on its way.

But absent a National/WW Plan to immediately take ALL

Power Plants off-line until the CME passes the Earth, ALL

Power Plants would STILL be lost

What is needed is a plan and mechanism akin to detecting and responding to a nuclear first strike where the President with ONE communication could instantly take all plants off-line, to allow the GIC to harmlessly surge through the turned off transformers.
