OPINION: Bill Barr Needs To Answer For His Role In Ruby Ridge

The Second Amendment community has tried very hard to get members of the Judiciary Committee to persuade attorney general nominee William Barr to renounce his long-standing support for gun control. Opposing his nomination is not a position we relish. But if members of the Senate choose to ignore his record on guns, they should not ignore his role in the Ruby Ridge scandal.

Consider these facts.

Barr was in charge of the Justice Department during Ruby Ridge, and he knew what was going on.

Barr stated, under oath, that his chief gun priority would be the Ruby Ridge-like gun confiscation orders (sugar-coated as “red flag laws”).

You may remember that Barr’s federal agents descended on Randy Weaver’s Idaho compound in August, 1992, and (1) shot weaver in the back; (2) shot Weaver’s wife Vicki to death, while she was holding her infant son; (3) shot Weaver’s 14 year-old son to death; and (4) shot Weaver’s dog.

Courts subsequently largely exonerated Weaver, while excoriating the FBI and the Department of Justice. And, although then-Attorney General William Barr claimed to know nothing about the Ruby Ridge fiasco, a 1995 Washington Post article reported that there were 20 high-level DOJ calls about Weaver in the 24 hours preceding the murder of his wife — and two of them directly involved Barr.

After that, Barr spent huge amounts of pro bono time trying to get exoneration for the FBI sniper who shot Vicki Weaver to death. He pushed for immunity from prosecution, organized letters on his behalf, and framed arguments before the trial and appeals courts.

But long before Ruby Ridge, Barr’s hatred for the Second Amendment was clear.

But the most dramatic thing of all is that because when transhuman, that person will not be considered human according to the Human Rights we know. The situation is extremely serious and I have the feeling that people do not realize the seriousness of what we are facing. It is not only the diseases the vaccine is going to produce, often fatal, but also the fact that the survivors will have a modified genome and that this modification will be passed on to their descendants. Because their genome is modified, that modification is patented. Everything that is patented belongs to the patent holder.”

Rittenhouse tapped for Congressional Gold Medal

US Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) is calling for teenager Kyle Rittenhouse, fresh from his acquittal on homicide charges, to be awarded the Congressional Gold Medal for “protecting” his community from rioters.

Greene introduced a bill that calls for awarding the prestigious medal to Rittenhouse because he “protected the community of Kenosha, Wisconsin, during a Black Lives Matter riot on August 25, 2020.” The legislation comes after at least two other Republicans in Congress – Representatives Matt Gaetz (Florida) and Madison Cawthorn (North Carolina) – made internship offers to Rittenhouse.

The Congressional Gold Medal marks the highest honor that Congress can award. Recent recipients have included police officers who defended the US Capitol during the January 6 riot and American troops who were killed by a terrorist bombing during the Pentagon’s chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan in August.

Rittenhouse, 18, was found not guilty last week of homicide and related charges in connection with shootings that left two rioters dead and one injured. The Kenosha County Circuit Court jury apparently believed the teen’s claims that he acted in self-defense as he was being attacked by men who tried to take his rifle, including one who pointed a pistol at his head.

Greene’s bill is only the latest salvo in the political battle over a case that President Joe Biden and other Democrats held up as an example of white supremacy – even though Rittenhouse and all three of the men he shot were white – and vigilantism. Biden reacted to last Friday’s verdict by saying he was “angry and concerned,” and Vice President Kamala Harris said the jury’s decision showed that “there’s still a lot more work to do” in making the US criminal justice system more “equitable.”

Axios reported Wednesday that the Democrats informed the White House they will not support Biden's nominee.

The failed nomination marks a major setback for progressives, who championed Omarova over her criticism of big banks and fossil fuel companies. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) hailed Omarova’s nomination as "tremendous news." The left-wing Sierra Club touted Omarova as a bulwark against "climate chaos" and hoped she would set up "guardrails against Wall Street's risky fossil fuel investments."

Omarova was arrested in 1995 on charges she stole $214 in merchandise from a T.J. Maxx store in Madison, Wisc., where she was studying for her doctorate degree.

In response to President Joe Biden's order mandating vaccines for businesses with more than 100 employees, many US companies have stated that they'll institute the vaccine requirement themselves. Among them is Google, whose vice president of security has long made clear that the company would be mandating vaccines.

As a result, CNBC reports, a manifesto has been circulated around Google and signed by hundreds of employees. It calls for a mandate that's "inclusive of all Googlers" and urges workers to "oppose the mandate as a matter of principle."

Google employees were given until Nov. 12 to request exemptions for medical conditions or "religious beliefs," as company leadership plans for staff to return to in-office work for three days a week starting Jan. 10 of next year.
