Alarm over new 'worst-ever' super-mutant Botswana Covid variant that could make vaccines at least 40 per cent less effective as Australia prepares to ban flights from affected countries

UK Health Security Agency said B.1.1.529 has more than 30 mutations — most ever recorded in a variant

Combination of strains suggest it could be more vaccine resistant and transmissible than any version before

Caused an 'exponential' rise in cases in South Africa, already spread to three countries – including Hong Kong

Health Minister Greg Hunt said Australia was 'well prepared' for any spread of the variant in this region

Gladys Berejiklian BOMBSHELL: Popular premier is 'actively considering' running at the next election - as the Treasurer says 'she'd be welcome' and PM slammed ICAC probe

Gladys Berejiklian resigned in October as NSW premier due to investigation

Liberals are hopeful that if cleared she will run for federal seat of Warringah

Treasurer Josh Frydenberg said she would be 'most welcome' in Canberra

Former NSW premier Gladys Berejiklian is weighing up a sensational move into federal politics - and she's already got the backing of the Morrison government.

Despite saying she was leaving public life from good after being forced to resign on October 1 over the Independent Commission Against Corruption inquiry into her secret relationship with disgraced MP Daryl Maguire, Ms Berejiklian's position has softened in the wake of polls showing she's still extremely popular with Australians.

The revelations she's 'actively considering' the move in the Australian Financial Review were backed up by Josh Frydenberg saying she's be welcomed with open arms if she decides to run for Warringah, which is next to her state electorate of Willoughby on Sydney's lower north shore.

The seat is held with a 7.2 per cent margin by independent Zali Steggall who took it from Tony Abbot in 2019 with a pro-climate campaign.
