SQUINT™ (Social See Something, Say Something) is a browser plugin and mobile app that enables rapid social media situational awareness of COVID-19-related misinformation for public health officials through crowd-sourced reporting. When you click on the SQUINT owl icon in your browser or mobile app, the information is analyzed, and a clear and concise report is generated for SQUINT™ users.

Government officials and nonprofit sector representatives in 11 U.S. states have partnered with Mitre to implement a browser plugin and mobile application that works to help them identify misleading or false information on social media concerning the upcoming elections.

The Social See Something, Say Something tool is designed to spot and report misinformation or feed patterns that observers can use when issuing content takedown requests to authorities, Mitre said Thursday.

In Michigan, SQUINT users spotted misleading posts that stated that nearly 72% of precincts had a mismatch between the number of absentee voters and ballots cast during the August primary, indicating election fraud in races for local government and U.S. congressional seats. However, the largest discrepancy between voters and ballots was five in 14% of the precincts.
