New Details Released on Epstein’s Final Days

November 26, 2021

Jeffrey Epstein spent his final days in prison living in fear of the MS-13 gang, unable to sleep due to his cellmate’s incessant chattering and battling constipation.

More than 2,000 pages of Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) records recently obtained by The New York Times – just days before Epstein’s alleged co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell is set to start trial – revealed Epstein had been deemed ‘cooperative,’ ‘goal directed,’ and ‘psychologically stable’ in the days before he took his own life.

Although he ‘adamantly denied suicidality’ after being placed on suicide watch for 31 hours after an apparent attempt to end his life, Epstein told officials he feared for his safety.

Medical experts placed him on psychological observation, issued constipation medicine and gave him novels to read.

Epstein – who was a registered sex offender with two convictions in 2008 for solicitation of prostitution and procurement of minors to engage in prostitution – was sentenced to just 13 months following his guilty plea. He hanged himself in his New York City jail cell on August 10, 2019.

In the month prior to his death Epstein ‘continued to deny any suicidal ideation, intention or plan.’

‘I have no interest in killing myself, the disgraced financier told a prison psychologist, according to the BOP documents. He also said he was a ‘coward’ and did not like pain.

‘I would not do that to myself,’ he added.

In a suicide risk assessment dated July 24, 2019 state, Epstein again ‘explicitly denied recent and current suicidal ideation, planning, and intent.’

He did, however, request to be relocated to a safer unit, citing that ‘there were many MS-13 gang members on the initial unit’.

Epstein complained of poor sleep due to noise from his cellmate and the constant running toilet in his cell that left him ‘agitated for hours’ and ‘[sitting] in the corner [holding] his ears’.

He also expressed irritation with his inability to pass a bowel movement.

During another psychological evaluation just days after he had arrived at the prison, Epstein told a psychologist that ‘being alive is fun’.

He also reportedly requested to speak with his lawyer, brush his teeth and have a shower and the psychologist noted that Epstein was polite and even had a sense of humor.

The psychologist wrote: ‘He was future-oriented,’ and noted that he denied having ever sexually abused anyone and believed he would be released after his renewed bail hearing.

But less than a month later, on August 10, the financier hanged himself with a bedsheet, according to the medical examiner.

He was pronounced dead while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges and was facing 45 years in prison if convicted.
