What Greenwich Parents Want

Greenwich parents want to see our schools depoliticized. We are alarmed as some administrators and teachers are pushing Critical Race Theory, 1619 Project, and other extreme political ideologies onto our children. Our parents support an honest, truthful, age-appropriate, and fact-based curriculum that is reviewed and approved by our elected Board of Education, according to Connecticut law.

Recently, there have been many instances of highly politicized, sexually-explicit, profanity-laced and racially-charged content being taught at all levels of Greenwich Schools. Reasonable parents are shocked and surprised. Superintendent Jones has attributed these events to a few rogue teachers teaching unauthorized curriculum. Yet, the pattern of alarming events continues, leaving us to wonder whether Dr. Jones has control of the situation. We would like to see the Board of Education enforce Connecticut law and its own policies to teach only approved curriculum and instructional materials in schools.

We are grateful the vast majority of Greenwich teachers are strong partners with parents to educate our children. However, we have been forced to highlight specific instances of specific teachers teaching unauthorized content to better illustrate our concerns. Parents are not “threatening” or “targeting” anyone. But teacher unions and national Board organizations have characterized parents speaking up as domestic terrorists. We hope the GEA and state organizations like CEA and CABE will stop these false, toxic attacks on parents. Greenwich is a big-name place and we don’t need their national agendas here.

The irony of all of this is that had the Superintendent and Board of Education responded more appropriately to our original concerns, we probably wouldn’t even be here today. Yet ignoring and gaslighting concerned parents has backfired, and instead turned this into a major issue that won’t go away.
