Oates first became known on talk radio (mid nineties) , which is where I first heard amazing samples of RS. As you imply, RS can not only reveal the lie, but also often confirms what truth is being forward spoken. Oates once ran a tape of him finding out his house was on fire, and he said, "What!?!?" In reverse, he also said, "What!?!?" Sometimes the RS is as plain as that, and I know this from my own experiments. Yet many, many times, the subconscious speaks in reverse, using symbology. So if the word "wolf" is heard in reverse, it indicates a particular thing. This is true for many words/phrases.
