“It’s Coming” – New York Gov. Hochul Declares State of Emergency Due to Omicron Variant

New York Governor Kathy Hochul (D) declared a state of emergency due to the new “Omicron” Covid variant spreading in Africa.

The declaration goes into effect on December 3 and gives the Health Department the power to limit “non-essential” procedures (will likely be enforced through the lens of equity) at hospitals.

“We continue to see warning signs of spikes this upcoming winter, and while the new Omicron variant has yet to be detected in New York State, it’s coming,” Hochul said.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has declared a state of emergency ahead of potential COVID-19 spikes this winter due to the already-circulating Delta and newly-identified Omicron variants of coronavirus.

The declaration, which goes into effect on Dec. 3, will allow the state to acquire pandemic-fighting supplies, increase hospital capacity and fight potential staffing shortages. It would also allow the state Health Department to limit non-essential and non-urgent procedures at hospitals.

The variant contains around 50 concerning mutations from the original SARS CoV-2 virus that appeared in China in 2019, including more than 10 to the spike protein that allows the virus to access human cells.

The Federal prohibitions on who may or may not purchase/possess a firearm are a subject of debate with many. On one side of the aisle we’re told that too many violent people are still able to get access to firearms. The other side might be saying “shall not be infringed” until blue in the face. Personally, just trying to report on this subject, I’ve been accused of being too “progressive” and that my views embrace unconstitutional provisions in the law. I imagine this’ll be no different. A bill was recently introduced by Colorado Congressman Joe Neguse, the Vice Chair of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force. Neguse announced on November 4th the introduction of the legislation. The Congressman was joined by Representatives Jake Auchincloss and Robin Kelly in bringing the bill forward. H.R.5878 – End Gun Violence Act of 2021 aims to add certain misdemeanors to the current list of those who no longer have a Second Amendment right.

Greenland Ice Sheet Melting No Faster than Last Century

The climate doomsday machine makes much more noise about warming-induced melting of Greenland’s ice sheet than Antarctica’s, even though the Greenland sheet holds only about 10% as much ice. That’s because the smaller Greenland ice sheet is melting at a faster rate and contributes more to sea level rise. But the melt rate is no faster today than it was 90 years ago and appears to have slowed over the last few years.

The ice sheet, 2-3 km (6,600-9,800 feet) thick, consists of layers of compressed snow built up over at least hundreds of thousands of years. Melting takes place only during Greenland’s late spring and summer, the meltwater running over the ice sheet surface into the ocean, as well as funneling its way down through thick glaciers, helping speed up their flow toward the sea.

In addition to summer melting, the sheet loses ice at its edges from calving or breaking off of icebergs, and from submarine melting by warm seawater. Apart from these losses, a small amount of ice is gained over the long winter from the accumulation of compacted snow at high altitudes in the island’s interior. The net result of all these processes at the end of summer melt in August is illustrated in the adjacent figure, based on NASA satellite data.

Former Prosecutor Nearly Bludgeoned To Death In Gun Control Stronghold

Take for example a recent case involving a dispute that resulted in an attempted murder charge. While all the details of the event are not out yet, there are a couple of reports that highlight the conflict.

A North Jersey man has been accused of using a wooden baton to hit a 79-year-old over the head, trying to kill him.

Mohammad Ramadan, of Rochelle Park, has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and unlawful weapons possession, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced on Friday.

The 34-year-old tech consultant had tried to kill the older man when he used the baton to bludgeon him in Fair Lawn on Tuesday, according to Musella.

Now, a psychological evaluation is all that is required to legally change one’s gender in the Netherlands.

French Agricultural Ministry Reports Bird Flu Outbreak in Nord Department

PARIS (Sputnik) - The French Ministry of Agriculture and Food said on Saturday that an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza occurred at a poultry farm in the northern department of Nord.

"While viruses of avian influenza circulate actively in Europe through the intermediary of migratory birds, France has detected an outbreak of the highly pathogenic HPAI strain at a poultry layer farm, situated in the Warhem commune in the Nord department," the ministry said in a communique.

This outbreak follows the last winter epizootic at French farms.

Earlier in the month, the ministry said that increased level of risks had been declared across the country due to rapid spread of avian flu in Europe. In addition, preventing measured were reported to be bolstered at poultry farms for better protection against the disease.
