Microfag here and I have a hypothesis that explains the doc’s findings AND Africa’s covid data.

Theory: Omnicron isn’t actually a SARS virus. It is actually a coronavirus cold (compare with rhinovirus). One that is serologically VERY closely related to SARS.

This is very important, for Omnicron is likely the root cause of the covid data in Africa. This is likely due to Omnicron being closely related enough to the point where antibodies against it are providing cross reactive covid protection in Africa.

The cross reactivity could be going both ways to the point where antibody testing is registering this corona cold as covid 19.
