Fauci says 'troublesome' omicron 'might evade immune protection'
President Biden’s chief medical adviser, Anthony Fauci, on Sunday called the newly discovered omicron variant of COVID-19 “troublesome,” and raised concerns that it “might evade immune protection.”
“Right now, what we have is we have the window into the mutations that are in this new variant. And they are troublesome in the fact that there are about 32 or more variants in that very important spike protein of the virus, which is the business end of the virus,” Fauci said during an interview on NBC's “Meet the Press.”
“And there are about ten or more of these mutations that are on that part of the virus, we call it the receptor binding domain, that actually binds to the cells in your nasopharynx and in your lung,” Fauci continued. “In other words, the profile of the mutations strongly suggest that it's going to have an advantage in transmissibility and that it might evade immune protection that you would get, for example, from a monoclonal antibody or from the convalescent serum after a person's been infected, and possibly even against some of the vaccine-induced antibodies.”
Though Fauci confirmed that the omicron strain has not yet been detected in the U.S., he said on ABC's "This Week" that it was “inevitable” that it would hit the country.
Fauci’s comments come as scientists are racing to learn more about the variant, which was first found in South Africa.
The director of the National Institutes for Health, Francis Collins, said during an interview on "Fox News Sunday" that it would take several weeks for scientists to better understand whether omicron could evade the protection of the COVID-19 vaccines.
However, Collins said that because the COVID-19 vaccines had been effective against other variants such as delta, there was reason to believe that it also be effective against omicron.
"Given that history, we expect that most likely the current vaccines will be sufficient to provide protection. And especially the boosters will give that additional layer of protection because there's something about the booster that causes your immune system to really expand its capacity against all kinds of different spike proteins, even ones it hasn't seen before," Collins said.

"Allegations that Russia is planning to attack anyone and rebukes that it is behaving aggressively are absolutely groundless and wrong," he said, when asked to comment Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s statement that Russian President Vladimir Putin "must say it publicly" that Russia has no plans to attack Ukraine.
"Russia has never hatched, is not hatching and will never hatch any plans to attack anyone," he stressed. "Russia is a peaceful country, which is interested in good relations with its neighbors."
According to Peskov, allegations about Russia’s aggressive plans may be meant to disguise preparations for a force scenario in Donbass. "We are afraid, and we have already said this, that these allegations might be meant to hide [Ukraine’s] own preparations for a force scenario in Donbass. It would be an utter recklessness," he said.
He noted that the anti-Russian hysteria fanned by US, British and Ukrainian mass media, and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky is inadmissible. Director of Indigenous Peoples’ Health Research in Canada Forced to Resign for Being a Fake
Carrie Bourassa, who served as scientific director of the Institute of Indigenous Peoples’ Health at the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, has been ousted from her post and her university professorship after she was exposed as a fake Indigenous Canadian.
Colleagues got suspicious as she began adding on to her lineage of native tribes. She claimed to be a member of the Métis Nation. She also claimed Anishinaabe heritage and asserted that she’s a descendant of the Tlingit, a small group of Indigenous people from the Yukon and British Columbia.
The Canadian Broadcasting Company traced her ancestry and didn’t find a drop of native blood. It turns out Ms. Bourassa descended from immigrant farmers who hailed from Russia, Poland, and Czechoslovakia.
This is a woman who really got caught up in the deception. She showed up at a TED conference decked out in full Native American gear, complete with a feather in her hair.

Colleagues began to doubt Bourassa’s story as she began to add claims of Anishinaabe and Tlingit heritage to her tale — and took to dressing in stereotypically indigenous fashion.
It started to unravel in 2019, when she appeared in full tribal regalia — draped in an electric blue shawl, with a feather in her partially braided hair — to give a TEDx Talk at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon.
“My name is Morning Star Bear,” she said tearfully as the crowd cheered.
“I’m Bear Clan. I’m Anishinaabe Métis from Treaty Four Territory,” she proclaimed as she described an impoverished childhood beset by violence.

Facebook's 'Race Blind' Algorithm Found 90% Of Hate Speech Directed Toward White People And Men
We now know why Facebook decided to change its "race-blind" hate speech detection algorithm last year to allow more anti-white hatred.
The Washington Post reported last week that an "April 2020 document said roughly 90 percent of 'hate speech' subject to content takedowns were statements of contempt, inferiority and disgust directed at White people and men."
They viewed this as a failure of the system because white people are supposed to be the targets of all hate.

Facebook spokesman Andy Stone defended the company's decisions around its hate speech policies and how it conducted its relationship with the civil rights auditors.
"The Worst of the Worst project helped show us what kinds of hate speech our technology was and was not effectively detecting and understand what forms of it people believe to be the most insidious," Stone said in a statement.
He said progress on racial issues included policies such as banning white nationalist groups, prohibiting content promoting racial stereotypes — such as people wearing blackface or claims that Jews control the media — and reducing the prevalence of hate speech to 0.03 percent of content on the platform.

Facebook researchers sought out the views of White conservatives in particular because they wanted to overcome potential objections from the company's leadership, which was known to appease right-leaning viewpoints, two people said.
Yet racist posts against minorities weren't what Facebook's own hate speech detection algorithms were most commonly finding. The software, which the company introduced in 2015, was supposed to detect and automatically delete hate speech before users saw it. Publicly, the company said in 2019 that its algorithms proactively caught more than 80 percent of hate speech.
But this statistic hid a serious problem that was obvious to researchers: The algorithm was aggressively detecting comments denigrating White people more than attacks on every other group, according to several of the documents.
