Nearly 10,000 active duty US Marines are set to miss Monday's vaccine mandate deadline: Corps still doesn't know how it will punish them

• Marines have until Sunday, November 28, to be fully vaccinated

• Their vaccination rate is far below the Navy (99.7 percent) and Air Force (97)

• Officials with the Navy, which the Marines is part of, say each case will be reviewed individually and those who refuse won't be 'kicked out' on the deadline

Earlier this month, the Army said those who refuse won't be allowed to re-enlist

The Marines' vaccination rate, 94 percent, is the lowest among the military, raising questions about what it means for safety and readiness for the branch that is often the US's first line of defense. The Navy, in comparison, has a 99.7 percent vaccination rate ahead of the same Sunday deadline. It is unclear what will happen to Marines that refuse the jab.

'We will be addressing each case on a case-by-case basis is what we’re going to be doing,' Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro said last week. 'We’re just not going to all kick them out on the day of the deadline itself.'
