tbh not all "new age" is created the same. Rudolph Steiner (antroposophy) for instance was a big proponent of freedom and spoke against the rogue theosophic cults and different satanic ("luciferic" and "ahrimanic") secret orders.
Steiner is a very interesting figure.

I agree, a good rule of thumb is to stay away and be skeptical of all cults and movements.
