Seven Interlochen Arts Camp and Arts Academy alumni are among the nominees for the 2022 Grammy Awards.
Arts Camp alumna Norah Jones (IAC 94-95) received a nomination for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for her latest release, ‘Til We Meet Again (Live).
The Christian McBride Big Band—which includes pianist Xavier Davis (IAA 85-89) and saxophonist Ron Blake (IAC/NMC 79-81, IAA 80-82)—earned a nomination for Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album for For Jimmy, Wes and Oliver.
Two ensembles featuring Interlochen alumni received nominations for Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance. Violist John Pickford Richards (IAA 97-98) and violinist Austin Wulliman (IAC 00) of the JACK Quartet were nominated for John Luther Adams: Lines Made by Walking. The Imani Winds, featuring clarinetist Mark Dover (IAC 02-04, IAA 04-05) and oboist Toyin Spellman-Diaz (IAC/NMC 89) earned a nod for BRUITS.
Numerous other alumni are members of the five orchestras nominated for Best Orchestral Performance—the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, and Seattle Symphony Orchestra—including flutist Demarre McGill (IAC/NMC 89-91), clarinetist Emil Khudyev (IAC 01, IAA 01-05), and tubist Carol Jantsch (IAC 94-96, 98-99, IAA 99-02), among many others.
Presented annually by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, the Grammy Awards recognize excellence in the music industry. Since the awards’ founding in 1959, Interlochen alumni have garnered several hundred nominations and 139 wins.
Winners will be announced during the awards ceremony on Monday, Jan. 31, 2022, which will be broadcast live on CBS.
