Alan Tudge stands down after ex-lover’s bombshell claim

Education Minister Alan Tudge is being stood aside while an independent review is conducted into claims he was emotionally abusive to his former lover.

Education Minister Alan Tudge has stood aside from his portfolio pending a fresh investigation into his extramarital affair with his former press secretary Rachelle Miller.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison made the shock announcement to Parliament at the beginning of Question Time.

“Given the seriousness of these claims that have been made by Ms Miller, it is important that these matters are resolved fairly and expeditiously,” he said.

“To this end, the Minister had agreed to my request to stand aside while these issues are addressed.”

The Prime Minister said an investigation into the claims would now be conducted by the Department of Finance led by Vivienne Thom.

World Health Organisation begin talks to establish global pandemic treaty

The World Health Organisation is on track to establish a legally-binding treaty to strengthen global defences against pandemics as scientists continue to investigate the risk of the Omicron variant.

A negotiating body will begin talks over the international agreement in March next year and is expected to be completed by May 2024.

The Director-General claims it’s “a once-in-a-generation opportunity” to strengthen global health security.
