ELDERBERRIES. It was either orange or lemon rinds, some kind of tree bark (maybe birch) and elderberries. My grandmother who came from the old country made me pick several bushels of elderberries every year and then she would make a big pot. We all drank a tablespoon full twice a day for like a month. Oldanon has trouble remembering, he was only 7-9 yrs. old at the time.

Yeah, us kids back in the 40's picked bushels of elderberries every year. Would get big money, 50 cents a bushel. But grandma would take 3 and pay me nothing. Could pick 4 bushels a day as an 8 yr. old. After I grew older, tweener years, I got to trapping, mostly muskrats.
