Are stories like these just being reported more or are rampage-esque things like this becoming a regular thing? I can't even tell anymore but it seems like there's a new one every couple hours.
I always just assumed it was like 2 guys spread across 30 IDs in a back office somewhere. It's become very evident now that most organic traffic is gone and this place has operated on a skeleton crew for almost a year.
I've studied him for years. He's a bot, but one with a human controller that can jump in at any time. This can become obvious when you make the controller angry enough to reveal himself. He's speaking some sort of code that's all but indecipherable unless you know what to look for. My guess is he's a one-way communication stream, the equivalent of a 21st century numbers station.
I've had what one could almost consider conversations with him over the years, but he mostly just ignores me now.

I think someone tracked eBot's IP down to Beijing once, so that would explain quite a bit.
No idea, their motives are a mystery. I've honestly forgotten exactly how I used to prove them, but I think it typically involved just throwing things at the wall and seeing what stuck. Eventually I'd hit a nerve and they'd respond.
