Get and give ham radios for Christmas this year. If you don't go ham (test is free and isn't terrible), get a CB with SSB capability (no test, no fee - very capable VHF w SSB), or pick up a high powered GMRS ($35 license, no test, good for 10 years covers the whole family).

Network comms will be controlled and are being controlled as we speak.
If SHTF, comms are just as important (maybe more) than weapons, and right up there with food and first aid.

Sometimes the receiver portion of an HF radio is more important than the TX portion. All those powerful offshore and useful HF stations are tunable with a wire strung up a tree.
You can even alligator clip to a fence if you know what you're doing.
I hear ya on the trust thing. If you didn't know them well for years before all this, then wish them well.
You don't…no one does then. It's for now. The ones that turn it on after the balloon goes up may as well not even have it. Like training with anything. If you're a freebander, that's cool, but train with your gear and have some that will work.
That's what your cell phone is for…tracking you and everything you do…it let's you talk too…if you're approved to do so…and the towers and infrastructure is all working fine.
Radios are about self reliance and ad hoc comms. You do whatever you think is best. I have a reason for bringing this up and it has nothing to do with 3pers this, or Patriot that, or any of that. Support systems are being crippled to leverage control of the population. Being able to feed yourself, get help, respond to loved ones, etc…is basic human survival sh*t.
All good. I listen to those big AM stations abroad on SDRs and realize why they are so important during bad times. You can hear them over hundreds to thousands of miles with little more than a tiny box and some batteries.
They are in a civil war. Let's hope the people can recover the government (and they will) without the tyrants forcing bloodshed. Wishful thinking most likely, but a good wish.
