It appears clear he has been advised by his lawyer. Weeks agai he wouldn't say a word because of the investigation and NDA's. He's either legit worried of backlash or playing the part to show he isn't afraid of backlash. (I believe it's the later) Either way it's the way to slowly roll out that redpill to the public.
