>why does she want them in jail?

Protect the school administrators.

Should have been the SRO and school psychologist in on the parent's meeting. SRO would let local LE/sheriff know what's up. Sheriff said he wasn't informed of a gun. Not credible for me to think discussion with parents did not mention guns with all the circumstantial drawings and SM posts. Administrator fuck up #1.

Psychologist would have been the one to recommend counseling. Can't see non-medical principal making that call. Once psychologist says counseling, principal can suspend until that condition is met. Kid has to leave school grounds or is liable for trespassing. Parents have no say in the matter. Administrator fuck up #2.

Rumors out there Monday night there was a problem and some kids wanted to stay home Tuesday. 1st parental reaction, IMO, would have been to call a friend who was on the school staff to check if the kid was bullshitting. Can't rule out there was no gossip in town, from my experience. That gossip, then, should have also been on the table during the Tuesday parent conference. We're back to Sheriff saying he hadn't heard of a gun threat that needed guns being taken. Any gun gossip is taken seriously, in my experience. Administrator fuck up #3.

I think there were around 60 school closures closing out the week due to copy cat threats. My guess is staff at the other schools called around to the staff they knew at Oxford to ask what the fuck went on, and decided not to make the same mistakes the Oxford admin did. Namely, Oxford admin knew what was floating around but didn't believe it was serious. Again, that's my take.

Sheriff, here, basically hung the school out to dry. That usually wouldn't happen, so I think he just wants some daylight between his dept/staff and the school administration because the school fuck ups can't be salvaged and the Sheriff doesn't want to be around for them to blame him.

Tl;DR: DA trying to help the school by putting the parents under the magnifying glass.
