Looks like something much bigger happened on the east coast in the past. If you look at high resolution elevation maps you can see a ridge about 50 miles inland from just north of Lake Okeechobee to the Carolinas.
In FL the material is white quartzite beach sand. Okeechobee is about where the Bahamas shielding would be observed and is plain to see.
Most likely suspect: Cumbre Vieja in La Palma. Geologic evidence shows many very large landslides in the past undersea all around it.
