DOBBINS, Calif. - A California Highway Patrol officer was able to pull a child away from a woman that was attempting to drown the child in a drainage ditch, according to CHP Yuba-Sutter.
At about 6:30 p.m. Monday, CHP officers received information about a vehicle blocking the west lane of Woodruff Lane, east of Armstrong Rd.
When an officer arrived, a 2005 Dodge Caravan was blocking the road. When the officer was checking the vehicle, he heard screaming from about 100 yards to the west near a canal.
31-year-old Taylor Green was seen in weeds near the canal and was acting irrationally, according to CHP.
When the officer got closer, he saw Green had a 4-year-old child face down and was smothering him in a muddy embankment.
Green then went down about five feet in the water with the child after the officer reached for the child, according to CHP.
CHP says the officer jumped into the water and freed the child from Green.
The officer then tried to crawl up the embankment when Green began to fight back and tried to pull the officer and the child back into the water.
Other CHP officers arrived at the scene to safely get the child out of the officer’s hands and away from Green.
She was arrested and taken to the Yuba County Jail. She is facing two counts of attempted homicide, resisting arrest, attempting to take an officer’s firearm, felony child endangerment and driving under the influence of drugs.
Green’s bail is set at $500,000.
