Essentially, Islam is commanded to fight all other religions and beliefs until everything is subjected to Islamic rule. What is proper Islamic rule depends on whether you are a Shiite or Sunni; Persian or Arab, respectively - the Persians weren't completely conquered by Islam and some facets of their culture survived in the Shiite sect. Though these distinctions were minor.

Just because the Jews and Muslims are fighting each other does not mean there is an ally to be found in either.
