Carolyn Everson Will Leave Instacart at the End of the Year
Her departure comes just four months after joining the delivery platform
Instacart president Carolyn Everson is leaving the delivery platform at the end of 2021 after just four months on the job.
Everson shared the news on Facebook, the platform where she headed up global advertising for a decade.
In her post, Everson said she and CEO Fidji Simo “both agreed that this was the best decision for the company and for me personally.”
In a statement, Simo said she is grateful for Everson’s contributions. She also noted the departure “was a mutual decision,” adding, “We believe it’s the right decision for both the company and Carolyn based on our priorities and the role she was looking for at this point in her career.”
Everson joined fellow Facebook alum Simo in August to oversee retail, business development and advertising operations at Instacart. She succeeded Nilam Ganenthiran, who has served as a strategic adviser to the president since September.
It was not immediately clear who will succeed Everson or whether Ganenthiran will assume his former role in the interim.
Speaking at an event in October, Everson said she decided to join Instacart after leaving Facebook because the platform is “in a league of its own” as a business that fundamentally changes consumers’ lives.
“It is all about this four-sided marketplace and understanding how we can build technology to grow retailers’ businesses, how we can be a place for CPG brands to be discovered and move more product off the proverbial shelf, [how we can be] a place for consumers to save time with online grocery delivery, as well as other products, and [how we can give] shoppers a flexible way to earn extra income,” Everson said at the time.
In her Facebook post on Dec. 10, Everson noted she will turn 50 on Dec. 17 and “my birthday present to myself is a real break while I dream up what’s next.”
She added, “I know I want to keep making a difference and keep focusing on enlightened leadership and the importance of building strong cultures for people to thrive personally and professionally.”
