Top Pennsylvania court kills required school mask mandate for students

Pennsylvania kids may not have to mask up in class anymore, after a top court killed a statewide requirement for students to do so.

The edict, which took effect in September, was declared unconstitutional because acting state Health Secretary Alison Beam didn’t have the authority to require masks without an emergency declaration from Gov. Tom Wolf, courts found.

Individual school districts will still be allowed to set their own COVID-19 policies, but the state can’t force them to mask up. The state Supreme Court has yet to issue its own opinion on the matter, instead upholding a lower court’s ruling. In a statement, Pennsylvania Senate Leader Jake Corman said the decision was about more than just making kids wear masks in schools—it was about restoring the right to make health and safety decisions to parents and local leaders.

“It is about preventing government overreach in general,” said Corman, a Republican. “The law clearly does not give any governor or any state agency the power to create orders out of thin air in the absence of an emergency declaration and outside the regulatory review process.”

Chris Cuomo’s CNN producer charged with luring girls for "sexual training"

A veteran CNN producer who worked “shoulder to shoulder” with now disgraced ex-anchor Chris Cuomo has been indicted on charges of luring young girls to his Vermont ski house for “sexual subservience” training.

John Griffin, of Stamford, CT, allegedly used messaging apps to befriend and persuade moms of young girls, telling them “a woman is a woman regardless of her age,” and that he should be the one to “train” their daughters sexually, according to the indictment from the US Attorney of Vermont.

Griffin, 44, allegedly got at least one mom of two daughters to bring the girl to his Ludlow ski getaway, in June 2020.

It was the mom’s responsibility to see that her older daughter, just 13, was “trained properly,” Griffin told her, according to the indictment.

Griffin, a father himself, sent the woman $3,000 for plane tickets so they could fly from Nevada to Boston’s Logan Airport, where he picked them up in his Tesla for the ride to Ludlow, according to court papers. It was there that “the daughter was directed to engage in, and did engage in, unlawful sexual activity,” authorities alleged.

Griffin attempted to entice two other children over the internet into sexual activity, according to the indictment, which said he favored apps like Kik and Google Hangout for the alleged misdeeds. In April 2020, Griffin allegedly suggested a “virtual training session” over a video chat, that would include him instructing a mother and her 14-year-old daughter to remove their clothing and touch each other.

Biden to visit Kentucky tornado devastation as long as he won't get in the way

Joe Biden responded to a deadly tornado in Kentucky saying he will deploy federal resources to the storm ravaged areas and will visit the scene as long as he isn’t impeding the cleanup process.

"Yes I do," the president said when asked if he plans to visit Kentucky, where at least 50 people have been killed by a tornado that struck Friday night. Biden says he told Kentucky’s Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear he would be "happy to come but I don’t want to be in the way."

Biden’s pledge to visit Kentucky comes at the same time he has faced criticism for not visiting the scene of recent national tragedies and crises including the Waukesha, Wisconsin, parade massacre and the porous southern border.

Biden has made multiple trips to visit storm ravaged areas since the start of his presidency including visits to Louisiana, New Jersey, and New York in response to Hurricane Ida in September.

Biden also approved an emergency declaration Saturday providing federal funds to the commonwealth of Kentucky.
