Fairview Elementary teacher arrested, charged with child sex crimes

A Fairview Elementary School teacher was arrested Monday in Columbia and charged with nine counts of aggravated sexual battery, especially aggravated sexual exploitation of a child, eight counts of rape, incest and eight counts of rape of a child.

Two victims who are minors were reported by District Attorney General Brent Cooper. Neither are students at Fairview Elementary.

According to Williamson County Schools, Jonathan Ullrich, 55, was placed on unpaid leave after his arrest. The district sent a letter to families and staff notifying them of his arrest and said Principal Dr. Tracy Bullard will communicate directly with families about classroom activities for the remainder of the semester, which ends with a half day Friday.

Ullrich was named FES Elementary School Teacher of the Year at WCS’s annual employee of the year celebration in 2020. However, he has a history of sexual harassment claims against him dating back to 2014.

Ullrich was the first principal at Longview Elementary School in Spring Hill, which opened in 2007. He served in that position until 2014, when he was reassigned by WCS to the district office after an investigation into allegations that he violated the district’s anti-harassment policy by making inappropriate comments to a staff member. Ullrich was allowed to get back into the classroom that fall.

He also was previously an assistant principal at Heritage Middle and Bethesda Elementary schools and taught at Chapman’s Retreat Elementary School.

Ullrich is being held on a $200,000 bond in the Maury County Jail.
