Texas AG Investigating Pharmaceutical Companies That Promote Hormone Blockers for Kids
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has announced an investigation into two pharmaceutical companies that allegedly promote the use of hormone blocking drugs for children.
The drugs are not approved by the Food and Drug Administration for this purpose.
Paxtonâs office is looking into whether or not Endo Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and AbbVie Inc. violated the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act by promoting using the medications Supprelin LA and Lupron Depot for kids whose parents allege that they are transgender.
According to a press release from the Attorney General, âSupprelin LA and Lupron Depot are approved to treat children with Central Precocious Puberty (CPP), when the puberty process begins prematurely. And Vantas, along with other forms of Lupron, has been prescribed for palliative treatment of prostate cancer. These drugs are now being used to treat gender dysphoria even though they are not approved for such use by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Gender dysphoria is a diagnosed mental disorder in which a person experiences significant distress related to a strong desire to be of another biological sex.â
âThe manufacture, sale, prescription, and use of puberty blockers on young teens and minors is dangerous and reckless,â Attorney General Paxton said in the statement. âThese drugs were approved for very different purposes and can have detrimental and even irreversible side effects. I will not allow pharmaceutical companies to take advantage of Texas children.â

Democrat Senator Who Blocked China Forced-Labor Bill Received $60K From Nike Execs In September
On Wednesday evening, Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) blocked a bill that would ban goods made using forced labor in China's Xinjiang region - after Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) refused to tack on an unrelated extension of the child tax credit.
What the Daily Caller uncovered, however, is that top Nike executives funneled more than $60,000 to Wyden's re-election campaign over the course of just 16 days in September. The company has donated approximately $188,000 to his campaigns since 1989, making the apparel company his top contributor.
Nike executives previously gave large sums of cash to Wydenâs campaign. In December 2015, amid another Wyden re-election campaign, Parker, the companyâs CEO at the time, and 11 other Nike executives gave contributions totaling $39,000 to the Oregon Democrat. -Daily Caller
The Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act was passed unanimously in the House on Tuesday, while the Senate was expected to also approve before sending it to the desk of President Biden - who vowed to sign the bill once passed by both chambers, in order to "ensure global supply chains are free of forced labor."
The bill would require companies which import products from factories in the Xinjiang province to provide "clear and convincing evidence" that the products weren't tied to forced labor.
Nike, a major benefactor of Wyden, was one of several corporations to lobby against the bill, The New York Times previously reported. A March 2020 report from the bipartisan Congressional-Executive Commission on China (CECC) concluded that the Oregon-based athletic apparel giant was one of several corporations suspected to either directly employ forced labor or source materials from suppliers using forced labor in Xinjiang.
Between Sept. 15-30, 10 Nike executives including CEO John Donahoe and Executive Chairman Mark Parker each made two $2,900 contributions to Wyden, according to federal elections campaign data. Scott Uzzell, the CEO of Nike subsidiary Converse, made a single contribution of $2,900. -Daily Caller
In total, Wyden received $60,900 over the span of approximately two weeks.
Nike has denied using forced labor, saying in a statement last year following the NYT report that they company is "committed to ethical and responsible manufacturing and we uphold international labor standards,' adding "We are concerned about reports of forced labor in, and connected to, the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR)."
"Nike does not source products from the XUAR and we have confirmed with our contract suppliers that they are not using textiles or spun yarn from the region."
The company also denied lobbying against the forced labor legislation blocked by Wyden.
That said, Senate lobbying disclosures released over the past year reveal that Nike invested in efforts related to "international trade, global sourcing and labor," which specifically names the forced labor bill - yet don't detail the company's exact actions, per the Caller. According to the filings, the company has spent over $1.2 million lobbying in the Senate.
On Wednesday, Wyden said he would object to the legislation until an extension of the child tax credit was included.

American senators propose branding Russia âstate sponsor of terrorismâ
A group of American senators has introduced legislation to provide additional military support to Ukraine, proposing to designate Russia as a âstate sponsor of terrorismâ if Moscow aggressively strikes at its neighbor.
Eight Republican party legislators submitted the bill on Wednesday, naming it the GUARD Act, which stands for Guaranteeing Ukraineâs Autonomy by Reinforcing its Defense. The proposed legislation includes a range of measures designed to support Kiev, including authorizing $450 million in foreign military financing in 2022 and promising to designate Russia as a âstate sponsor of terrorismâ in the event of perceived aggression.
According to John Barrasso (R-Wyoming), one of the lawmakers introducing the bill, Russian President Vladimir Putin âis attempting to dominate and control Ukraine.â The senator said, âwe cannot let this bold and dangerous behavior go unchecked. The United States and our allies must do more to deter Russia by increasing the costs of its aggression.â
The bill also includes additional sanctions against Nord Stream 2, the newly constructed pipeline that will bring Russian gas to Europe through the Baltic Sea. Ukraine, which stands to lose billions of dollars in gas transit fees, has described the project as a security threat. But despite strenuous objections from Kiev and Washington, European leaders have indicated that the pipeline will begin operations as soon as it clears bureaucratic obstacles.
In recent weeks, Ukraine and the US have accused Moscow of âaggressive actions,â including a troop buildup on the border with Ukraine, and said that they suspected Russia could be planning to invade its eastern European neighbor.
The Kremlin has consistently denied the allegations, pointing out that its soldiers have remained within Russian territory. Moscowâs Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said Western accusations and pledges to support Ukraine are dangerous because they could push Kiev towards a military solution to the crisis in the countryâs war-torn Donbass region.

YouTube deletes RTâs German language channel showing newly launched 24/7 TV broadcast
RTâs auf Sendung channel was removed from YouTube on Thursday, just hours after RT DE launched a round-the-clock TV broadcast in Germany.
The much anticipated German-language channel had gone on air, with RTâs auf Sendung page set up on YouTube to allow the internet audience to watch it live. However, only five hours later the page had been removed by the platform.
You can WATCH the live broadcast of the new channel on RT DEâs official website.
Google, who owns YouTube, said in a statement that the new channel was deleted due to being created in violation of earlier restrictions that had been placed on the outlet.
Two of RT DEâs channels were removed from YouTube in September due to what YouTube claimed was a violation of community guidelines, the company explained. RT auf Sendung (the one deleted on Thursday) was taken down because, according to the platformâs rules, the owners of deleted channels are barred from launching and operating new ones, it explained.

Following the September's decision, RTâs editor-in-chief branded it a âdeclaration of media war against Russia by Germany,â and called on Moscow to respond.
Speaking about the latest development on Thursday, RTâs editor-in-chief, Margarita Simonyan, said the German authorities were acting in an âastonishing way.â She once again noted that RT had not faced âsuch difficulties and such restrictions in any other country,â as the German authorities sought to prevent the broadcaster from going on air.
âNow, as we went on air, they blocked our new YouTube channel as well,â she said, adding that such behavior is hardly âsurprising.â Simonyan pointed out that the German language channelâs live broadcast is still available, including on the website and on the mobile app. German audiences would appreciate an alternative source of information, she claimed.
Before its removal, RT DE was the fourth-most influential German-language news source on the platform, surpassing Deutsche Welle and a number of other news broadcasters.
The audience for RTâs German language online platform, RT DE, has been steadily growing ever since its launch back in 2014. According to CrowdTangle data, it is currently the top German-language news media on Facebook, based on total interactions over the past 12 months, surpassing such German media heavyweights as the tabloid Bild or Der Spiegel magazine, as well as the public broadcaster ZDF.
Its videos, according to Tubular Labs, are also among the top-five most viewed on Facebook, beating those of such German grandees as Spiegel TV, Zeit Online, and Focus Online. RTâs multilingual family of websites has also turned out to be more popular than that of Germanyâs state-owned international broadcaster, Deutsche Welle, when it comes to visits from Germany.
