My father was a Mason.
His father was a Mason.
My great-grandfather was probably a Mason.
I once asked my Dad what the "G" on the back of our AMC Ambassador meant.
He somberly replied: "God, son… God."
Later in life, I learned that there is a progression of meanings, depending on the member's Degree.
"God", "Grand Architect of the Universe", "Geometry" and finally "Gnosis", the worship of Knowledge or Intellect.
The high-ranking Masons are all very intellectual; at least, that's how they view themselves.
