As used in this letter, “surveillance” includes, but is not limited to, efforts to wiretap or hack into the electronic devices or accounts of the targeted person or persons.

This request further includes, but is not limited to, documents, records, or communications identifying (1) the government affiliates, agents, employees, contractors, or private parties involved in such activities, and (2) the targets of any such activities. For each such instance of surveillance, I wish to view all documents, records, communications, and/or other tangible identifying or revealing (1) the government contractor(s), employee(s), or representative(s) who authorized, conducted, and/or assisted the surveillance; and (2) the factual and/or legal rationale, if any, for conducting the surveillance. This request covers the period from July 22, 2020 until the present. [I limited the request to 7/22/20 because I submitted an identical request previously].

Turkey Halts All Stock Trading As Currency Disintegrates, Central Bank Powerless To Halt Collapse

Another day, another collapse in the Turkish lira, only this time there was a twist: as the hyperinflating currency implodes, Erdogan has finally had enough of the relentless pummeling, and is starting to shut down Turkey's markets.

But first, let's back up: heading into Friday, the lira accelerated its historic descent, weakening past the 16 per-dollar mark for the first time ever, as the central bank's pledge to end a four-month cycle of interest rate cuts on Thursday failed to convince investors that inflation can be brought to heel. That was just the start however, and the currency plunge only accelerated crashing as low as 17.14 just hours later, bringing declines this week to 17%. YTD the currency has lost more than half of its value!

As a reminder, the central bank yesterday cut its benchmark one-week repo rate by a further 100 basis points to 14%, its fourth reduction since September spurred by demands from President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to lower borrowing costs in the face of surging consumer prices as part of his batshit insane monetary policy Erdoganomics whose only possible outcome is the collapse of Turkey's economy and hyperinflation. The resulting sell-off accelerated a 54% plunge in the currency so far this year as real rates fall further below zero with inflation now standing at an annual 21.3%.

Erdogan then responded to the economic pain caused by rising prices by ordering a 50% increase in the minimum wage next year, guaranteeing even more inflation as it will increase production costs that will see inflation accelerate by a further 2% to 8% next year, Erkin Isik, chief economist at QNB Finansbank, wrote in a note to clients.

In any case, once the lira plunged to 17, the central bank spent another billion or so intervening, its 5th intervention just in December. Needless to say, this intervention like all those preceding it, had a half-life of just a few minutes, and shortly after the USDTRY was trading back at just shy of all time highs.

School District in New York Sends out Email Warning Parents of Sudden Cardiac Arrest in Students Grades K-12

Eastport-South Manor Central School District (ESM) in Suffolk County, New York sent out an email to all parents informing them about the new physician in their district. The new hiring was part of the new regulations regarding Sudden Cardiac Arrest of students Grades K- 12.

The Gateway Pundit obtained a copy of the email where the ESM stated that there’s a new regulation where all districts are now required to ensure that nurses and coaches can address the treatment and monitoring of students who exhibit signs and symptoms of sudden cardiac arrest.

In addition, districts are required to make sure that all staff are aware of the warning signs of sudden cardiac arrest and what to do if a person experiences sudden cardiac arrest, the email continued.

A concerned parent reached out to The Gateway Pundit saying that the email is very suspicious, considering New York is very close to mandating the COVID shot for students to attend school.

“I find it disturbing that they are now bringing on the new medical staff who specialize in sudden cardiac arrest. Considering we are seeing a lot of adolescents and athletes dying days after getting their COVID shots, it seems they are preparing for this.”

Nearly two years into a pandemic that has already killed more than 5 million people, only about 7% of people in low-income countries have received a dose. Vaccine deliveries worldwide have been delayed by production problems, hoarding by rich countries, export restrictions and red tape. Many programmes have also been hampered by hesitancy among the public.

The legal concerns are an additional hurdle for public health officials tackling the coronavirus – even as officials say unvaccinated people offer an ideal environment for it to mutate into new variants that threaten hard-won immunity around the world. Many COVID-19 vaccine manufacturers have required that countries indemnify them for any adverse events suffered by individuals as a result of the vaccines, the United Nations says.

Where governments are not in control, that is not possible.

South African Hospitalization Rates Plunge Despite Omicron Onslaught

Over the past few weeks, the omicron variant has exploded out of southern Africa (the first case was identified in Botswana) and spread across most of the globe. And yet, despite all the kvetching about the variant being on track to succeed the delta variant as the world's dominant strain…

South Africa delivered some positive news Friday when it reported a much lower rate of hospital admissions amid signs that the wave of infections may be peaking, according to Bloomberg.

Only 1.7% of identified COVID cases were admitted to the hospital in the second week of infections in the fourth wave, according to local data.

That's compared with 19% in the same week of the third delta-driven wave, South African Health Minister Joe Phaahla said at a press conference.

This is all evidence that the strain may be milder, and that infections may already be peaking in the country’s most populous province, Gauteng.

Still, new cases in that week of the current wave were more than 20K a day, compared with 4.4K in the same week of the third wave. That’s further evidence of omicron’s rapid transmissibility, which a number of other countries, such as the UK are also now experiencing.

As for where that evidence might come from, South Africa, which announced the discovery of the variant on Nov. 25, is being watched as a canary in the coal mine.

There are a few key differentiators that make South Africa different from other countries: The country’s population is young compared with developed nations. What's more, between 70% and 80% of citizens may also have had a prior COVID infection, according to antibody surveys, meaning they could have some level of protection. ;

Currently there are about 7.6K people infected with COVID in South African hospitals, about 40% of the peak in the second and third waves. Excess deaths, a measure of the number of deaths against a historical average, are just below 2K a week, an eighth of their previous peak.

“We are really seeing very small increases in the number of deaths,” said Michelle Groome, head of health surveillance for the country’s National Institute for Communicable Diseases.

The number of COVID hospitalizations in this wave is also being inflated by the fact that milder patients are being admitted because there is room to accommodate them. Many are there for other complaints but are routinely tested for the pathogen, according to health officials.

“We have seen a decrease in a proportion of people who need to be on oxygen. They are at very low levels,” said Waasila Jassat, a researcher with the NICD.

The final takeaway: "For the first time there are more non-severe than severe patients in hospital.”

All Roads Lead to Mark Zuckerberg: Newest Liberal Group EOLDN Organized to Defend Shady Election Officials for Free has Zuckerberg Roots

On Monday, Decemter 13, several lawyers stepped forward to announce they were going to work for election officials in Wisconsin and represent them at no cost to diffuse the threats and voter fraud claims from the 2020 election.

The lawyers, led by Attorney David Becker, announced the formation of the Wisconsin Election Official Legal Defense Network (EOLDN).

In just three months since the formation of EOLDN in Septembert hundreds of liberal attorneys have signed on to assist the group.

On Thursday Wisconsin Republican State Representatives released the following statement regarding Monday’s news conference.

The Republicans questioned the ethics and legality of the EOLDN providing free legal defense attorneys to election officials. The group also pointed out that this group is also tied to Zuckerberg money.

The GOP representatives point out that David Becker, who was at the Monday press conference and is the founder of EOLDN, was also the founder of the Center for Election Innovation and Research (CEIR) a group Zuckerberg funded with $69.5 million during the 2020 election. David Becker announced at the press conference there was “no evidence of fraud” in the 2020 election.

In 2005, an ethics complaint was filed against him for being partisan in a non-partisan role against Republicans as a trial lawyer in the Voting Section in the U.S. Department of Justice. He left that role shortly thereafter and became a senior staff attorney of the left-wing activist group People for the American Way in 2006, and became director of their campaign in 2007. Afterward, he became director of election initiatives at PEW Charitable Trusts and created the Electronic Registration and Information Center (ERIC), a national computer voter registration system in 2008 which currently shares voting data in 30 states.”

“We find it interesting and most concerning that this individual, who happens to be the founder of the ERIC system and the CEIR, would need to create EOLDN to offer pro-bono attorneys to defend election officials. We find it further concerning that Kevin Kennedy, former director of Wisconsin’s Government Accountability Board, who also led on the John Doe investigation against the Walker campaign, is also on the board of directors for CEIR.”

The Wisconsin Representatives concluded with this:

“It appears the press conference panel’s answer for those who question the integrity of an election influenced by Zuckerberg money, is to bring in more Zuckerberg money from CEIR and EOLDN to protect those who took Zuckerberg money from the CTCL.”

Heart inflammation cases confirmed in kids after Pfizer jabs

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported eight cases of myocarditis, a potentially deadly type of heart inflammation, in elementary school students who received the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine.

As of December 10, the CDC said it had received 14 reports of myocarditis among children aged 5-11 years old who received the shot. Of these, it said eight reports – involving four boys and four girls – met the agency’s “working case definition” for the inflammation.

Five of the 14 cases reported are still being followed up on. Of the eight accepted by the agency, six came after receiving the second dose of the Pfizer shot – the only vaccine available for the age group.

The reports were highlighted on Thursday among 3,233 other post-vaccination adverse events reported to the CDC’s Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS).

While noting that the cases had a “mild clinical course,” the CDC did not confirm if it believes there is a direct link between the myocarditis incidents and the vaccine. It also did not disclose the frequency of myocarditis occurrence among those in the age group that have not been vaccinated.

The agency said there had been over 7 million vaccine doses in the 5-11 age group by December 9. It also reported two deaths of children with “complicated medical histories,” but noted that the majority of adverse events reported were “non-serious.”

Last week, CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said the agency had not “seen anything yet” about myocarditis cases following vaccination, and said the vaccine was safe for young children. But a recent poll found nearly two-thirds of parents of elementary schoolers were unwilling to take the risk.

When approving Pfizer’s mRNA vaccine for the age-group in October, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had noted concerns over myocarditis and pericarditis – an inflammation of tissue surrounding the heart – among males 12-17 years of age. But the FDA’s benefit-risk assessment model predicted that the vaccine’s benefits for children aged 5-11 years “would outweigh its risks.”

Yesterday, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said she wanted half the state's adult population — about 6 million people — to have been inoculated by the end of the month.

Ghislaine Maxwell’s team calls ‘false memories’ expert to undermine accusers’ claims

A psychologist and expert on “false memories” who has testified or consulted in high-profile trials — including Harvey Weinstein and Bill Cosby’s — was called to the stand in Ghislaine Maxwell’s case by her defense lawyers Thursday as part of their attempts to undermine her accusers’ testimony.

Elizabeth Loftus, a professor at the University of California, Irvine, was questioned by Maxwell attorney Bobbi Sternheim, about how a person’s memories can be influenced or constructed.

“Emotion is no guarantee that you’re dealing with an authentic memory,” she told the jury.

Loftus has testified or consulted in some 300 trials since 1975, including those of Michael Jackson, O.J. Simpson, Robert Durst and Ted Bundy.

She testified that her research has shown personal biases can influence memories — and people are more likely to accept “suggestions” that correspond with their beliefs or motives.

People do seem to be more willing to accept suggestions when it’s going to fit with their prior beliefs or fit with their motives,” Loftus said.

During cross-examination, Assistant US Attorney Lara Pomerantz grilled Loftus over the fact that the expert has only ever testified for the prosecution one time out of 150.

She also brought up a 1991 book by Loftus titled, “Witness for the Defense.”

“You wrote a book called ‘Witness for the Defense’?” Pomerantz asked.

“Yes,” Loftus replied.

“You haven’t written a book called ‘Impartial Witness,’ right?”

“No,” Loftus said.

CNN’s Sex Pest Problem Turns Pedo.

Project Veritas has released audio records and text messages showing yet another CNN employee describing lurid sex acts, this time his desire to commit sexual acts against a child. The child being discussed is 14-years-old, and the daughter of the producer’s fiancée.

The news follows Jeffrey Toobin being suspended and unsuspended after masturbating in front of colleagues, and the dismissal of Chris Cuomo for attempting to cover up for his brother’s alleged sexual harassment.

Janine Bonanni, the source who has released the audio recordings and text messages, had a 10-year relationship with the CNN producer where he consistently described his desire to engage in sexual acts with children. The CNN producer sent photographs of the child in a bathing suit to Bonanni, along with text messages where he referred to the child’s body in a highly sexually charged manner.

Bonanni responded to the text messages by saying “this is your girl’s [fiancée’s] kid.” She went on to say that every time the CNN producer texts her, it’s “almost always about him wanting to see me and his step-daughter together.”

In the explicit audio recording in the clip below, the CNN producer describes how he wants to engage in sexual acts with the 14-year-old child. Bonanni states that she made the recording in order to have “proof of words coming out of his mouth” in relation to the producer’s desire to have sex with his teenager step-daughter.

The CNN producer went so far as to text Bonanni about her own daughter, who is 15-years-old. After the producer sent Bonanni money, he asked whether Bonanni would send mother-daughter nudes in exchange of “this help.”

The video concludes with Bonanni saying, “These people with power seem to get away with things… I just wants this kid to be safe.”

Bonanni is a case manager for human trafficking, domestic violence and sexual assault victims at the Center for Family Services. She said that she “does not want this girl to be a victim.”

The revelations about another CNN producer desiring sexual relationships with children comes after the arrest of longtime CNN morning show producer John Griffin. Griffin was arrested and charged with federal child sex charges after he attempted to persuade parents of minors to “allow him to train their daughter to be sexually submissive.”

Sex Offender, Fugitive, Gang Member Arrests Continue Along U.S. Southwest Border

Border Patrol agents along the southwest continue to arrest migrants with criminal histories including sex offenders, fugitives, and members of violent gangs.

In the Rio Grande Valley, agents arrested three gang members and two previously deported sex offenders. They also found a fugitive wanted in Utah for a sex crime, according to information obtained from Border Patrol officials.

McAllen Station agents apprehended a citizen of the Dominican Republic after he illegally crossed the border from Mexico on December 13. During a criminal background check the agents discovered that a Massachusetts court convicted and sentenced the man to two years in prison for strong-arm rape in 2017. ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations officers deported the man following the completion of his sentence.

That same day, Harlingen Station agents encountered a group of five Salvadoran migrants. While processing the group, agents conducted a digital background investigation and found one of the migrants, a 34-year-old male, received a conviction from a Suffolk County, New York court in 2005. The court sentenced the man to 10 years probation for sexual abuse of a child under the age of 11. Another court sentenced him that same year to 30 days of incarceration for a forged instrument. A federal court sentenced the man to 14 months in prison for unlawful re-entry after removal as a convicted sex offender.

Around this same time frame, McAllen Station agents arrested a group of 65 migrants. Hiding in the group was a female migrant identified as a member of the Salvadoran Mara-Salvatrucha gang (MS-13). The agents also found an 18th Street gang member and a 36-year-old Mexican national wanted in Utah for the alleged aggravated sexual abuse of a child.

Anthony Fauci Predicts More Hospitalizations & Deaths over Winter as Omicron Dominates

Dr. Anthony Fauci reportedly said Thursday the coronavirus omicron variant will become the dominant strain of the virus within weeks, perhaps overwhelming hospitals’ ability to treat patients.

“It [Omicron] is the most transmissible virus of Covid that we had to deal with thus far,” Fauci told U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, according to the Hill. He predicted it would soon become dominant in the United States.

Fauci, who claims to represent science, warned the winter could bring a rise in deaths and hospitalizations due to the flu and the delta and omicron variants.

“Besides the toll of suffering and death which will inevitably go up if in fact we have that convergence in the winter months of flu and omicron and delta, we could get our hospital systems overwhelmed,” Fauci warned.

“When you look at the pace of the infections now, things will get worse as we go into the depth of the winter,” he said, per CNBC. “And with omicron breathing down our back, things could get really bad, particularly for the unvaccinated.”

Fauci also revealed the delta variant is resurgent and considers it a cause for alarm.

“Delta is still a serious problem,” he said.

“When you look at the delta that we’re dealing with right now, we’re having an increase in every parameter, an increase in cases, an increase in hospitalization and deaths are still at 1,100.” Fauci continued. “So we are in for a difficult situation, particularly among those who are unvaccinated.”

Deaths from the Chinese coronavirus have reportedly spiked 14 percent in last weeks. Breitbart News reported:

As a result, Fauci suggested Americans hosting holiday parties should require guests to be vaccinated to participate in celebrations with friends and family.

“People should, if they invite people over to their home, to essentially ask and maybe require that people show evidence that they are vaccinated,” Fauci said.

Rachel de Souza, the Children’s Commissioner for England, has asked for parents to start talking to their children about online pornography and sexting from when they are as young as eight or nine.

According to a report by the BBC, de Souza, along with a panel of young people, called for parents to have conversations with their children about porn at a much younger age, before they are exposed to the material themselves.

The advice comes after one programme on state-owned broadcaster the BBC asked earlier in the year whether “age-appropriate pornography” should be made for children.

The commissioner told parents that they needed to “talk early, talk often” in order to prepare children for online dangers, and this should be done ideally before their kids ever have a smartphone, or an account on social media.

“You might be surprised how early our young people felt parents need to start the conversation,” The Guardian reports the commissioner as saying. “But kids want an age‑appropriate conversation that evolves over time in line with their growing maturity.”

“My advice to parents and carers is to create the culture before the crisis,” she continued. “Children have told us they want their mums and dads to create a safe, judgment‑free space for them to talk about these issues. It’s better to do that before you hit a problem rather than trying to create that mood while you’re dealing with one.”

The suggestion that parents need to talk to their children about porn when they are at a very young age comes as the UK tries to grapple with how young people are accessing sexual material online.

BBC programme Women’s Hour asked the British public in August whether “age-appropriate pornography” should be made for kids.

The question was likely prompted by the controversy surrounding a call for “porn for children” to be produced by a Sunday Times contributing journalist.

“Someone needs to create porn for children. Hear me out. Young teens are already watching porn but they’re finding hardcore, aggressive videos that give a terrible view of sex,” read a post by the journalist online. “They need entry-level porn! A softcore site where everyone asks for consent and no one gets choked.”

In response to the call for comment by the BBC production, Conservative Home commentator Bella Wallersteiner said that “age-appropriate porn is grooming”.

“It’s becoming clear there aren’t any adults left at the BBC capable of critical thinking,” Wallersteiner continued.

UK pop star Billie Eilish meanwhile recently called porn a “disgrace“, saying that the content did damage to her sex life and her brain.

“As a woman, I think porn is a disgrace,” Eilish said during an interview this week. “I used to watch a lot of porn, to be honest. I started watching porn when I was like 11.”

“I think it really destroyed my brain and I feel incredibly devastated that I was exposed to so much porn,” she continued, going on to lament the effect the material had on her expectations regarding sex.

Mexican Cops Raid Cancun Motel Used for Underage Sex Trade

State authorities raided a motel being used for the sex trafficking of underage girls in Cancun. The motel was a short distance from the main tourist district.

This week, the Quintana Roo Attorney General’s Office announced the raid which rescued an underage girl allegedly being forced into sex trafficking. Authorities also arrested four adult suspects and shut down the motel, alleging that the business was complicit.

The motel is on Supermanzana 36, near downtown, and also very close to Avenida Kukulcan, the main tourist strip.

The raid comes at a time when Cancun has seen a dramatic rise in violence as rival organizations seek to control the lucrative drug and sex trafficking trade. The turf war has led to numerous executions and shootouts and in some very public cases, shootouts in tourist areas. Mexican officials have been working to keep the violence outside the tourist areas.

More Than 400 Studies on the Failure of Compulsory Covid Interventions

The great body of evidence (comparative research studies and high-quality pieces of evidence and reporting judged to be relevant to this analysis) shows that COVID-19 lockdowns, shelter-in-place policies, masks, school closures, and mask mandates have failed in their purpose of curbing transmission or reducing deaths. These restrictive policies were ineffective and devastating failures, causing immense harm especially to the poorer and vulnerable within societies.

Nearly all governments have attempted compulsory measures to control the virus, but no government can claim success. The research indicates that mask mandates, lockdowns, and school closures have had no discernible impact of virus trajectories.

Bendavid reported “in the framework of this analysis, there is no evidence that more restrictive nonpharmaceutical interventions (‘lockdowns’) contributed substantially to bending the curve of new cases in England, France, Germany, Iran, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, or the United States in early 2020.” We’ve known this for a very long time now but governments continue to double down, causing misery upon people with ramifications that will likely take decades or more to repair.

The benefits of the societal lockdowns and restrictions have been totally exaggerated and the harms to our societies and children have been severe: the harms to children, the undiagnosed illness that will result in excess mortality in years to come, depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation in our young people, drug overdoses and suicides due to the lockdown policies, the crushing isolation due to the lockdowns, psychological harms, domestic and child abuse, sexual abuse of children, loss of jobs and businesses and the devastating impact, and the massive numbers of deaths resulting from the lockdowns that will impact heavily on women and minorities.

Now we have whispers again for the new lockdowns in response to the Omicron variant that, by my estimations, will be likely infectious but not more lethal.

How did we get here? We knew that we could never eradicate this mutable virus (that has an animal reservoir) with lockdowns and that it would likely become endemic like other circulating common cold coronaviruses. When we knew an age-risk stratified approach was optimal (focused protection as outlined in the Great Barrington Declaration) and not carte blanche policies when we had evidence of a 1,000-fold differential in risk of death between a child and an elderly person. We knew of the potency and success of early ambulatory outpatient treatment in reducing the risk of hospitalization and death in the vulnerable.

US Pilot Deaths increase by 1,750% after Covid Vaccine Rollout

Previously healthy U.S. airline pilots are passing away at an unprecedented rate. Pilots are required to be in tip-top physical condition, but in 2021, the entire airline industry conspired against the pilot’s individual health and threatened them with termination if they did not partake in the covid-19 vaccine experiment. As a result, over one hundred young pilots have mysteriously passed away in 2021, as countless other pilots suffer silently from adverse events and depleted immune systems.

A total of one hundred eleven pilots died in the first eight months of this year! This is a 1,750% increase from 2020, when the world was supposed to be in the middle of a pandemic. A list of the deceased individuals was published in the Air Line Pilot Association magazine. In comparison, there were 6 airline pilot deaths in 2020, and only one death in 2019.

Surge in pilot deaths is a warning sign to all

Most of the 111 deaths occurred after the covid-19 jabs were rolled out en masse. Because there are no medical codes for vaccine-induced death, most of the deaths are blamed on other causes. These causes may be related to the pathological evidence behind vaccine injuries, but are never coded as such. Pathological evidence is often ignored, and the deaths of young men and women are often referred to as “sudden” or “unexplained” – with no pathological investigation.

Only 5 deaths were recorded from January-March in 2021, when vaccine uptake was low. Peculiarly, a total of (39) deaths occurred in July and (34) occurred in August — right after governments and private companies used vaccine mandates to violate the privacy of their employees and punish them. Even though these intimidation tactics are illegal, these vaccine mandates were used to scare pilots into submission. Like in many professional fields, pilots went against their own beliefs and against their private medical situation, accepting the subjugation. Many complied with the vaccine mandates because the discrimination was so strong, equal opportunities were being shuttered and personal health decisions were not being honored. Many were afraid to lose their job and their future career prospects, so they lined up, hoping for the best while justifying the medical tyranny.

Broccoli pulled after child reports worm in lunch at Fort Bragg schools, NC base says

A student reported finding a worm in broccoli served for school lunch on Fort Bragg, officials said.

Broccoli was pulled from schools on the North Carolina military base on Tuesday, Dec. 7 after a student said there was a worm in one of the servings, according to Col. Scott Pence, garrison commander at the Army installation.

“Worms in food is definitely gross, but it’s reassuring to know that we have systems and processes to prevent it from happening again,” Pence said in an emailed statement.

The worm sighting was reported during the 10:20 a.m. lunch period at Irwin Intermediate School, about 10 miles northwest of downtown Fayetteville. Officials said they took action within minutes.

“We removed the broccoli from the serving line of all schools located at Fort Bragg,” a Department of Defense Education Activity spokesperson told ABC11, The News & Observer’s media partner. “Because students take a lunch break in successive waves, few students were affected by this.”

Fort Bragg said the base received a shipment of fresh broccoli from the U.S. Department of Agriculture on Dec. 6. The next day, the vegetables reportedly were delivered to on-base schools before being “washed, chopped” and served for lunch.

Military officials said there was a followup inspection on Dec. 15.

“The inspection included interviews with management and kitchen staff, as well as inspection of food storage and preparation areas,” Pence said in part of his statement that referenced a related report. “No current issues were noted during the inspection and in our assessment, the matter has been adequately handled to prevent future occurrences.”

Trump sought to 'undermine' COVID-19 response, says panel

The Trump administration deliberately undermined the nation's coronavirus response for political purposes, including by weakening testing guidance and championing widespread "herd immunity," according to a new report from the House panel investigating the pandemic response.

The Democratic staff report released Friday was a summation of the year's work investigating political interference in the pandemic response from Trump officials and the former president himself.

In interviews with officials and from uncovered emails and other documents, the committee found that the former administration failed to heed warnings about supply shortages, blocked public health officials from speaking publicly and neglected the pandemic response in order to focus on the 2020 presidential election and on promoting the lie that the election was "stolen" from Trump through widespread fraud.

New evidence released by the panel Friday highlighted the frustration and anger among senior public health officials with Trump's embrace of the herd immunity strategy.

In one instance, Trump held a roundtable event at the White House in August 2020 with some of herd immunity's top proponents that was organized by Scott Atlas, a radiologist who became a special adviser to Trump.

According to emails obtained by the panel, former White House coronavirus response coordinator Deborah Birx described it as “a fringe group."

"I can't be part of this with these people who believe in herd immunity," Birx wrote in an email to then-Chief of Staff to the Vice President Marc Short. "These are people who believe that all the curves are predetermined and mitigation is irrelevant – they are a fringe group without grounding in epidemics, public health or on the ground common sense experience. I am happy to go out of town or whatever gives the WH cover," she wrote.

Other details released by the panel Friday showed the Trump White House intentionally “softened” the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's public health guidance for faith communities.

Jay Butler, the deputy director for infectious diseases, told the panel in an interview he was pressured by the White House to publish guidance for faith communities that “softened some very important public health recommendations,” such as removing all references to face coverings, a suggestion to suspend choirs, and language related to virtual services.

There still remains tremendous potential for the two countries to reach full economic cooperation in the areas of technological and agricultural development, as well as in many other areas.

The Republic of Kazakhstan is currently celebrating its 30th year of independence, after parting ways with the USSR. On this occasion, Israel is also celebrating 30 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Many of us think about Kazakhstan as one of the countries that in the past was an integral part of Motherland Russia. At best, many Israelis see Kazakhstan as a tourist destination that they might one day visit after they’ve exhausted all the other more popular and familiar options.

Such an image, however, does this country a grave injustice. One is a small country, while the other is huge. Nineteen million people live in Kazakhstan, and it is one of the least populated countries that was formerly part of the former Russian empire.

Covering over 2.7 million sq.km., Kazakhstan is almost as large as all of Europe – an entire world all on its own. Kazakhstan shares a 6,500 km. border with Russia, a 1,500 km. border with China, a 2,300 km. border with Uzbekistan, and a 1,000 km. border with Kyrgyzstan.

This vast area is 140 times as large as the State of Israel and is home to thousands of streams and rivers, seven of which are over 1,000 km. long, as well as 48,000 lakes. The country is rich in natural resources, which are almost unlimited.

It has within its borders billions of tons of oil and over 1.8 trillion cu.m. of natural gas. Moreover, 20% of the earth’s uranium reserves are located in Kazakhstan.

These statistics are undoubtedly impressive and excite the imagination, and yet they fail to offer a clear picture of this country, the lifestyle of its population and its status vis-à-vis Asia, Europe, and to a large extent the rest of the world.

It certainly does not reflect the potential relationship it could have with the State of Israel.

From Kazakhstan’s first day as an independent state, the person who is rightly considered the father of the nation, Nursultan Nazarbayev, was intent on establishing full and intensive diplomatic relations with Israel. This relationship has only grown stronger over the years. The hand of Nazarbayev, who served longer than any other head of state of the other former Soviet republics, is evident in almost every aspect of this relationship

U.S. Invests $1.5 Mil to Help Salvadoran Police Deal with COVID-19 Stress

While local law enforcement agencies around the United States weather extensive budget cuts, the federal government is dedicating $1.5 million to assist police in El Salvador with challenges and stress created by COVID-19. The goal is to help the Central American nation’s 26,966-member National Civil Police (PNC) asses its role and capacities during a crisis and efficiently provide training to manage a public health emergency like the pandemic. “The training will particularly focus on public health orders, personal and workplace safety measures, education in regards to transmission and proper treatment, and management of operational continuity,” according to a grant announcement made public this month.

The document explains that in March 2020, the first case of COVID-19 was identified in El Salvador. With no immunity and no vaccine available to prevent infection in the impoverished country of about 6.5 million, COVID-19 has created challenges not only for the public health sector, but also for law enforcement agencies. To support Salvadoran law enforcement during the pandemic, American taxpayers will fund measures that will strengthen police programs to maintain control during lockdowns and enforce travel bans and social distancing rules. “The added support requirements created additional demands for security services and exposed police personnel to higher risk of infection,” the U.S. writes in the grant document. “In addition, because regular duties related to policing operations do not abate during the crisis, security sector personnel faced greater strain on resources and high levels of stress.”

Money for the initiative will flow through the State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), which was created in the late 70s to reduce drug trafficking into the U.S. from Latin America. In fiscal year 2022 the State Department requested $456.8 million for INL programs it claims strengthen the rule of law, human rights protections, law enforcement capacity, anti-corruption activities, and other critical efforts around the globe. In this case the allocation will enhance El Salvador’s Ministry of Justice and Public Security’s capacity of preparedness for a public health crisis by efficiently providing essential public safety services, maintaining public order, and addressing additional challenges faced during such emergency. Among the requirements for grant recipients is that they identify stresses on officer wellness and police resources in the PNC, which stands for Policia National Civil in Spanish.
