CNN producer paid Nevada woman to fly cross-country last year, prosecutors say

HENDERSON, Nev. (KLAS) — A Henderson woman is facing charges for her alleged role in an incident where a CNN producer paid her to travel cross-country with a child for sex, police confirmed Tuesday.

Henderson police arrested Heather Carriker, 48, in August 2020, a spokesperson for the department confirmed.

Carriker was charged with two counts of child abuse, two counts of sexual assault against a child under 14 and one count of lewdness with a minor under 14.

The FBI took John Griffin, 44, of Stamford, Connecticut, into custody last week for charges connected to enticing minor to engage in unlawful sexual activity.

Griffin has worked at CNN for 8 years, the network confirmed Saturday.

Griffin used online messaging services Kik and Google Hangouts to talk to people reportedly being parents of young girls, saying, among other things, that young women should be trained to “be sexually subservient and inferior to men,” prosecutors wrote in a news release.

Investigators allege Griffin transferred $3,000 to Carriker so she could buy plane tickets from Nevada to Boston for her and a child.

According to court documents, Carriker is accused of engaging in sex acts with Griffin and a minor.

Carriker’s next court hearing was scheduled for Dec. 22 in Henderson Justice Court.

Because Griffin’s case is in federal court, no booking photo was available.

CNN Journalist Charged With Meth Possession After Arrest in New York's Central Park

Richard Quest, 46, was arrested around 3:40 a.m. on a count of possession of a controlled substance — a misdemeanor that usually refers to a personal use amount of a drug. He was also charged with loitering; the park officially closes at 1 a.m.

When police saw and detained Quest, he told them, "I've got some meth in my pocket," according to the complaint filed in court. The complaint said he had a plastic sandwich bag containing methamphetamine in a jacket pocket.

Quest, who is British, is a correspondent for CNN International and is known for his reports on business travel. He hosts "CNN Business Traveler" and "Quest."

At his arraignment in Manhattan's Criminal Court, Judge Anthony Ferrara told Quest that if he attends the counseling and therapy designated by prosecutors for the next six months, his case will dismissed.

The judge allowed Quest to leave court without posting bail. He warned that if Quest failed to comply with the counseling schedule, he could be back in court and on his way to jail.

Quest's lawyer, Alan M. Abramson, said his client "did not realize the park had a curfew. He was returning to his hotel with friends."

A well-known CNN reporter has been arrested in New York's Central Park with drugs in his pocket, a rope around his neck that was tied to his genitals, and a sex toy inside his boot.

Richard Quest - who is known for his boisterous and quirky style - was arrested at 3.40am on Friday, almost three hours after the park's 1am closing time.

He was initially arrested for loitering, the New York Post said. However, a search by police uncovered the oddly configured rope, a sex toy inside Quest's boot, and a small bag of methamphetamine in his left jacket pocket, the Post said.

It wasn't immediately clear what the rope was for, the paper said.

Quest, 46, confirmed the contents of the bag by saying, "I've got some meth in my pocket". He later agreed to six months of drug counselling in exchange for the charges being dropped, provided the therapy was successful.
