Past bread post on using borax to supplement boron contains one slight error - the weight of a teaspoon (56grams) is way off. Everything else checks out as roughly correct.
Working backwards from final result of 3mg of boron per teaspoon (5ml) of the solution, I come up with the initial weight of about 2.8grams and it is possible to get that weight w/ one teaspoon, but it would be a heaping teaspoon. I did a quick check by weighing a teaspoon of borax and it was 2.1g, but it was just a little bit more than a level teaspoon.
Bottom line, If you're not weighing the borax, you would have no problem following the recipe exactly as originally posted, but 56grams is way too much.
Chem Engineer here, so very familiar with how to do these calcs. I drink water that I distill myself and add silica (90ppm) for removing aluminum and sometimes will add borax too. (Aluminum strongly linked to Alzheimer's, which I want no part of.)
I add one smidgeon of borax per 2 gallons of distilled water for about 6 mg of boron per gallon. A smidgeon is about 1/32 of a teaspoon.
