Thomas Paine wrote some interesting stuff on the Jews and Kings….somethign to the effect of they (Jews) wanted to be like other nations and have a king…so they anointed a king. Turns out, that was the wrong thng for them to do, cuz they weren't supposed to have a king, because they were special.
Anyway…Paine goes on to praise the idea behind representative government… you get the idea. (It was in Common Sense)
