The Great Capitol Resignation continues as another Arizona lawmaker leaves the Legislature
State Sen. Jamescita Peshlakai announced her resignation from the state Senate on Wednesday, effective immediately, to take an appointment in the Biden administration.
The fourth-term Democrat from Window Rock is the 13th Arizona legislator to leave their seat this year, most of them departing since the Legislature adjourned its regular session in late June. Two of those resignations were due to House members moving to fill vacancies in the Senate.
Peshlakai shared her resignation letter on Twitter, saying she is joining the U.S. Department of the Interior.

Milwaukee mayor sworn in as ambassador to Luxembourg
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett was sworn in as U.S. ambassador to Luxembourg on Thursday.
Barrett, a Democrat, resigned at 5 p.m. Wednesday after 17 years as mayor of Wisconsin’s largest city, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

Anchorage’s deputy clerk of elections resigns
Anchorage’s deputy clerk of elections, Erika McConnell, has notified the city she is resigning from her position. In the job, McConnell has been responsible for running the city’s regular and special elections alongside Municipal Clerk Barbara Jones.
“It is time for me to move on to something that is less stressful,” McConnell said.
Her departure comes as the Assembly is set to vote on technical changes to the city’s election rules.

Texas board withdraws pardon recommendation for George Floyd
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — A Texas board that had unanimously supported a posthumous pardon for George Floyd over a 2004 drug arrest in Houston backpedaled in an announcement Thursday, saying “procedural errors” were found in their recommendation months after leaving the decision to Republican Gov. Greg Abbott.
The unusual reversal was announced by Abbott’s office two days before Christmas, around the time he typically doles out his annual pardons.

Missouri board moves to discipline Galloway for Hawley audit
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — An accounting oversight board filed a complaint against Missouri’s Democratic Auditor Nicole Galloway this month over critical audits of Sen. Josh Hawley's use of public money while he was state attorney general.
The Missouri Board of Accountancy has been threatening to discipline Galloway, a Democrat, for months over the audit of Hawley, a Republican.
