SEATTLE - Nearly 30 Seattle Fire Department employees are in isolation ahead of the holiday weekend.
SFD confirmed to KOMO News it has 29 people quarantined, most of them work in operations.
Operations employees serve as firefighters, EMTs, paramedics or chief officers. SFD said this is impacting staffing levels.
The department says those exposed to whoever tested positive do not have to quarantine because they are vaccinated. However, SFD is still reinforcing social distancing and mask policies harder.
SFD also implemented a new policy on Dec. 18 because the omicron variant spread. The new policy allows members to voluntarily take a free rapid COVID-19 test when coming to work.
Many of the recent positive tests were found when employees took these tests.
>mandatory vax or be fired, many left, SFD already VERY understaffed, as is SPD
>listening to the scanner is becoming brutal, they are so understaffed
