Perhaps even Trumps weird stance on vaccines. If a large proportion of the population was going to be wiped out by a solar flare and the flipping of the poles a lot of people who have places booked underground would be highly motivated to not let the populace know what was coming. Hence explaining extreme weather using poor science to blame Co2 . Culling the population prior to the upcoming event would also make sense for the black hats and even perhaps the white hats though still in my opinion thoroughly evil.
