Spain detects 30 criminal groups dedicated to illegal immigration

The Government has detected 30 criminal organizations dedicated to illegal immigration, the highest figure in the last five years and twice as many as in 2016. These are data pending consolidation at the close of 2020 that show an upward trend: in 2016 there were 14 organizations operating in Spain and 16 in 2017, rising in 2018 to 28 and dropping to 21 in 2019.

Of these [illegal immigration] arrivals, 95.4% were by sea (36,379), of which more than half (54.6%) were via the Canary Islands route.
