We have two schoolmasters to return us to God:suffering and the law.
Suffering confronts our instinctive nature to usurp God;s position as the one who determines good and evil. Without thinking we determine what is good for us. God's don't suffer; we cry out that it is not supposed to be this way and declare that there IS a God.
The law confronts our conscious delusion that we are gods. God's don't covet, etc, they are self-sufficient.
You have been confronted effectively. The response is to declare God alone is God. Ask for his mercy. Rest in his competence in handling the circumstances around you.
