A key state’s witness in Opposition Leader Benjamin Netanyahu’s trial testified Tuesday that the former prime minister actively pushed for the establishment of a free tabloid in order to blunt a rival newspaper.

Nir Hefetz, a former Netanyahu confidant, told the Jerusalem District Court that the ex-premier helped enlist the late Jewish-American casino magnate Sheldon Adelson to set up Israel Hayom.

“Benjamin Netanyahu was involved in recruiting Sheldon Adelson to establish a paper that would take down Yedioth Ahronoth,” Hefetz said from the stand. “Netanyahu’s claims that [Yedioth publisher Arnon] Mozes was exploiting him are hypocrisy.”

Hefetz is the state’s key witness in the trial against Netanyahu, who faces charges in three separate graft cases. In the so-called Case 2000, he is accused of attempting to make a deal with Mozes for softer coverage of him in Yedioth, exchange for legislation to curb Israel Hayom’s reach. Mozes also faces charges in the case.

Israel Hayom, a right-wing newspaper widely considered to be a mouthpiece for Netanyahu, started operating in 2007 under Adelson, who died earlier this year. It quickly overtook Yedioth Ahronoth in circulation, thanks to its aggressive dissemination and free distribution.

Hefetz told the court there were times when Netanyahu demanded that Israel Hayom go after Mozes.

“I was witness to conversations in which Netanyahu demanded that Israel Hayom go full force after [Arnon] Mozes personally,” Hefetz said under cross-examination.

He alleged Netanyahu threatened Mozes by saying that he had “personal information” about him, but was never privy to what information the former prime minister supposedly had.

Israel refuses to provide evidence for banning Palestinian rights groups

The Israeli occupation authorities have failed to provide evidence for outlawing six Palestinian human rights and civil society groups, the Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel (Adalah) said on Tuesday.

"The organisations have not received any of the evidentiary materials that the Israeli authorities purport to justify this draconian and sweeping measure," Adalah said in a statement.

Adalah pointed out that it had sent a letter to the Israeli security authorities, demanding that they reveal all of the evidence forming the bases of the designations.

"There is no justice, fairness or due process for the organisations, without access to these materials in their entirety in order to defend themselves," Adalah stressed.

On 19 October 2021, Israeli Defence Minister Benny Gantz designated six leading Palestinian human rights and civil society groups as "terrorist organisations" under Israel's domestic Counter-Terrorism Law which was ratified in 2016.

The Israeli military commander in the occupied West Bank also outlawed all the six groups, declaring them "unlawful associations."

Adalah's legal team said that "the designations constitute a blatant political decision aimed at destroying Palestinian civil society, based on arbitrary law and emergency measures."

In its statement, Adalah described the six groups as "the most vocal against Israel's occupation and apartheid policies locally and internationally and provide needed services to a wide range of Palestinian communities," hinting that this is the real reason behind banning them.

"These baseless designations aim to delegitimise and discredit the work of these groups, placing the organisations, their staff and their supporters in danger of criminal charges," the statement said.

Adalah reiterated that the six groups did not have any information about the reason for their designation. "To date, they have had no meaningful opportunity to review and challenge the bases of the designations, as no evidence has been provided to them," Adalah said.

For Third Year, Committee To Protect Journalists Excludes Assange From Jailed Journalist Index

A record number of journalists are imprisoned throughout the world, according to the annual prison index released by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ). But that number excludes WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.

CPJ, which is based in New York, opposes the United States Justice Department’s prosecution against Assange. However, for the third year, the press freedom organization declined to classify him as a jailed journalist.

In the organization’s press release on the 2021 index, it states, “No journalists were jailed in North America at the time of the census deadline.” That may be true, but it obscures what the U.S. government is doing to keep a journalist detained in the United Kingdom.

Reporters Without Borders (RSF), based in Paris, previously joined with CPJ on press freedom campaigns. They also keep an annual tally of journalists in detention, yet unlike CPJ, RSF included Assange in their 2021 round-up.

Whatever Happened to the 'Pandemic of the Unvaccinated'?

Joe Biden’s desire to blame the pandemic on his political opponents never ceases to amaze us. From mask-shaming to claiming that Republicans want to kill children, to grandiosely naming the COVID-19 pandemic as a “Pandemic of the Unvaccinated,” Biden has sought to portray his political opponents as obstacles to normalcy.

This is a policy formulated at the top levels of our government: portraying a segment of the American people as dangerous ignoramuses who don’t care if they kill their friends and neighbors. As recently as Dec. 14, in an interview with a local TV station, Biden said “This is a pandemic of the unvaccinated. The unvaccinated. Not the vaccinated, the unvaccinated.” Along with his oft-quoted and totally inaccurate statements about vaccinated people not spreading COVID, Biden is once again ignoring the science to score political points.

It’s interesting that Biden gave that quote about the same time that omicron was beginning to spread in the U.S.

Aside from denying the science, trying to scapegoat your political enemies for the pandemic is a convenient way to absolve himself of the blame for his administration’s incompetence.

So if vaccine mandates aren’t moving the needle on vaccination, what, precisely, are they for? One particularly ungenerous hypothesis is hard to avoid. Rebranding COVID-19 as the “pandemic of the unvaccinated,” then targeting that population with punishments for noncompliance, has been a way to scapegoat political opponents and technology companies, while bolstering the sense of virtuousness among the vaxxed.

Those dynamics were present at the creation of the re-brand. The same week that the White House COVID-19 Response Team began telling vaccinated people that the pandemic was now for those other people, Surgeon General Vivek Murthy called for a “whole-of-society” effort to combat “health misinformation,” then Biden just flat-out accused Facebook and other social media companies of “killing people.”

The more desperate Biden gets over his declining political fortunes, the more hysterically he lashes out at those Americans who, for their own reasons, don’t wish to be vaccinated.

This has led to Biden allies in the media gleefully posting stories about unvaccinated people getting COVID and dying. “COVID Death Porn” stories serve the purpose of demonstrating the left’s righteousness about masks, vaccines, and other virus mitigation efforts. It has become as nauseating as any other aspect of the pandemic.

The left’s morality plays are now irrelevant. Breakthrough infections among the vaccinated are skyrocketing as omicron doesn’t care if you’ve been vaccinated or not.

The pandemic of the unvaccinated framing actively encouraged one of the uglier and least productive societal reactions to COVID-19: Making the mere fact of contracting the virus a morality play falling largely along partisan lines. The whole notion that by “doing everything right,” and “following all the rules,” you will be righteously spared, unlike those anti-science people this summer down south.

That self-flattering narrative is collapsing, now that (as predicted) a stubbornly seasonal/regional virus has hit media/Democratic centers for a third consecutive winter. “Thousands who ‘followed the rules’ are about to get covid,” ran the headline on a Washington Post “Wellness” column last week. “They shouldn’t be ashamed.” Lovely sentiment, that.

It won’t stop the left’s shaming of those who choose not to be vaccinated. But the more Biden speaks about the pandemic, the more he’s exposed as a lying charlatan — a snake oil salesman who cares more about his own political survival than the survival of his fellow Americans.

Henry Kissinger: AI Will Prompt Consideration of What it Means to Be Human

Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger says that further use of artificial intelligence will call into question what it means to be human, and that the technology cannot solve all those problems humans fail to address on their own.

Kissinger spoke at a Council on Foreign Relations event highlighting his new book “The Age of AI: And Our Human Future” on Monday along with co-author and former Google CEO Eric Schmidt in a conversation moderated by PBS NewsHour anchor Judy Woodruff.

Schmidt remarked throughout the event on unanswered questions about AI despite common use of the technology.

He emphasized that the computer systems may be able to solve complex problems, such as in physics dealing with dark matter or dark energy, but that the humans who built the technology may not be able to determine how exactly the computer solved the problems.

Along the lines of this potential for dangerous use of the technology, he stated how AI development, though sometimes a force for good, “plays” with human lives.

He pointed out that to deal with this great technological power, almost every country now has created a governmental to oversee the ethics of AI development.

Schmidt stated that western values must be the dominant values in AI platforms that influence everyday life such as ones that have key implications for democracy.

With all the consideration on how to make AI work so it is effective but also utilitarian, Kissinger noted how much human thinking must go into managing the “thinking” these machines do, and that “a mere technological edge is not in itself decisive” in terms of AI that can compete with adversaries such as China’s diplomatic technological might.

Documents made public reveal the government fought to keep the details secret to stop the public learning contact tracing data may not have been secure as authorities had promised.

Jacinta Allan – standing in for Premier Daniel Andrews while he is on a month's leave – claimed the government’s ongoing attempts to conceal the information was in order to avoid a “baseless scare campaign”.

She also said the concealment was designed to protect Victorians from media reports that aimed to drive “fear and misinformation”.

“The decision was taken in the balance of providing confidence in the Victorian community that this wasn’t a matter that needed to have that level of misinformation spread about it,” she said on Tuesday.

“That information has been collected on the basis that it would be kept confidential and that’s precisely why the Department of Health pursued this matter through the courts.”

Ms Allan’s comments follow a Herald Sun expose on Tuesday revealing the Andrews Government had deceived Victorians by promising their private contact tracing details would always be protected.

However, a secret ruling from the Supreme Court confirmed that an individual’s personal information shared with contact tracers or through QR codes does not have “absolute protection”.

In his analysis, Supreme Court Justice Andrew Keogh said: "there cannot be an absolute protection of contact tracing information on public interest immunity grounds which renders it immune from disclosure, irrespective of the precise information concerned, and when, in what circumstances, and for what purpose disclosure of the information is sought".

The ruling contrasts with that of contact tracers who for two years have been telling Victorians there information would be absolutely confidential and only used for the purpose of tracking the spread of COVID-19.

In fact, the Supreme Court’s ruling means crime fighting agencies, companies, and authorities such as WorkCover could apply to the court to access the data.

Adam's Kinzinger's Dad Helps Run the World Soy Foundation

Anti-Trump Rep. Adam Kinzinger’s father, Rus Kinzinger, is a Board Member of the World Soy Foundation. He starred in a promotional video extolling the virtues of soy that was uploaded to the World Soy Foundation’s YouTube channel in 2011.

The younger Kinzinger may be best known for his frequent uncontrollable, tearful, and emotional displays in the U.S. House, mostly delivered while denouncing 45th President Donald Trump, his voters, and other members of the Republican Party.

His father, however, is perhaps best known for his love of soy.

In a video for the World Soy Foundation, Rus Kinzinger extolled the virtues of the crop as he attempted to sell a new product that would allow farmers to process soy beans at their kitchen tables.

“They’re basically table top models that will allow soybeans to be turned into soy milk and other products,” said the elder Kinzinger.

“It produces soy milk!”

Kinzinger is credited as Board Member of the World Soy Foundation in the video, and is otherwise credited as a consultant with The Talon Company.

On his LinkedIn account, Kinzinger identifies himself as “Principal & Consultant” at The Talon Company.

Kinzinger indicates he has been a consultant at this company – and ostensibly involved with the World Soy Foundation – since 2007.

“The soy milk has a decided advantage for young children in the developmental stages,” Kinzinger urged. “It provides tremendous nutritional benefit.”

“Very little that a corporation can do will have as much direct impact, I think, on the future,” said Kinzinger.

Biden Opposes NDAA Provision Requiring Him to Disclose Details on Iran's Military to Congress

US President Joe Biden signed the country's National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2022 on Monday.

Joe Biden appears to have opposed a provision in the NDAA that required him to share detailed reports on Iran's military capabilities and activities, according to a White House statement released shortly after the president signed the bill.

Biden said that several provisions of the NDAA, including one related to Iran (Sec. 1227(a)(1), which requires a "detailed description" of the country's military advancements, oil transfers, missile launches and the like, would "effectively require executive departments and agencies to submit reports to certain committees that will include highly sensitive classified information, including information that could reveal critical intelligence sources or military operational plans".

"The Constitution vests the President with the authority to prevent the disclosure of such highly sensitive information in order to discharge his responsibility to protect the national security", Biden noted in his statement, adding that "at the same time, congressional oversight committees have legitimate needs to perform vital oversight and other legislative functions with respect to national security and military matters".

He said that he believes Congress "shares" this understanding and hopes that lawmakers will "comply with statutory reporting requirements in a way that satisfies congressional needs pursuant to the traditional accommodation practice and consistent with due regard for the protection from unauthorized disclosure of classified information relating to sensitive intelligence sources and methods or other exceptionally sensitive matters".

The statement comes amid Washington's continued assertions that it remains committed to countering the "threat" posed by Iran. Illustrating its efforts, State Department spokesperson Ned Price revealed that the US Navy had seized "upwards of 1,400 AK-47 assault rifles and 226,600 rounds of ammunition from a vessel originating in Iran".

"Iran’s support for armed groups throughout the region threatens international and regional security, our forces, our diplomatic personnel and citizens in the region, as well as our partners", Price continued.

According to the US, Tehran also poses a "grave threat" to peace in the region by developing its nuclear and missile programmes - something that Washington reiterated during a meeting in Jerusalem between US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan and his Israeli counterpart Eyal Hulata.

Westchester County DA Concludes Sexual Misconduct Allegations Against Andrew Cuomo are Credible, But Won’t File Charges

Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo was found to have sexually harassed multiple women, AG Letitia James announced in August after a 4-month investigation into the accusations.

According to NY AG Letitia James, Cuomo violated state and federal law.

James said Cuomo harassed current and former state employees and created a hostile work environment.

Cuomo resigned in disgrace on August 10 amid several criminal investigations into his sexual misconduct.

On Tuesday, Westchester County DA Mimi Rocah announced her office will not be filing charges against Cuomo.

The Westchester County DA’s office investigated two separate allegations against Cuomo and concluded they were credible.

“Our investigation found credible evidence to conclude that the alleged conduct in both instances described above did occur. However, in both instances, my Office has determined that, although the allegations and witnesses were credible, and the conduct concerning, we cannot pursue criminal charges due to the statutory requirements of the criminal laws of New York,” District Attorney Mimi Rocah said in a statement.

“This conclusion is unrelated to any possible civil liability which is beyond the scope of a District Attorney’s jurisdiction, which focuses solely on criminal laws,” she added.

“By Complying with the COVID-19 Guidelines I Would Be Participating in Terrorism” – VA Nurse Sends Out Letter and Compared the Guidelines as an ‘Act of Terrorism’

A registered nurse who works for Fayetteville VA Medical Center (VAMC) sent out a letter to explain the reasons for his refusal to comply with the protocols and guidelines set forth by the Veterans Administration.

Jerry Bledsoe told The Gateway Pundit that the reason he sent out the letter is to provide the best care for his brothers and sisters seeking care in the Veterans Administration.

Bledsoe believed that by participating in the COVID-19 protocols mandated by the hospital, he will be intentionally doing harm to those individuals who will be placed in his care, thus preventing him to perform his primary duty of advocating for his patients.

“I am not a social media person and I have no ulterior motives besides providing the best care for my brothers and sisters seeking care in the Veterans Administration. I am sure I will be terminated. No one I have spoken with disagrees with my letter but everyone is scared to lose their job pension and they feel that there is nothing that can be done. So far my “admonishment” has been for refusing a direct order, no concern whatsoever about the side effects I have seen from the vaccinations or my arguments to provide early treatment,” said Jerry Bledsoe.

Based on the definitions of terror, terrorism, and coerce as stated in his letter, Bledsoe believed that by complying with the COVID-19 guidelines he would be participating in terrorism.

“The guidelines set forth, create an environment of fear or terror through faulty PCR testing, withholding of or limiting prophylactic or early treatment, the use of harmful medications for inpatient treatment, and vaccine mandates to compel or coerce the population into taking an experimental vaccination. This is a violation of the Nuremberg Code, and I believe it to be terrorism,” said Bledsoe.

Minnesota school district approves extra pay for non-white teachers

A Minnesota school district will soon exclusively give non-white teachers extra pay to become mentors to other minority teachers.

The Mankato School Board earlier this month voted unanimously to provide "additional stipends" to non-white teachers who become mentors to other non-white colleagues. Additionally, Minnesota-based Alpha News reported that the new policy will also see the district "placing American Indian educators at sites with other American Indian educators and educators of color at sites with other educators of color.”

The school board claims that this new policy will "increase opportunity for collegial support" for teachers who are black, indigenous, and for other people of color. They hope to increase retention rates among these demographics.

“Retention strategies may include providing financial incentives for teachers of color and teachers who are American Indian to work in the school or district for at least five years and placing American Indian educators at sites with other American Indian educators and educators of color at sites with other educators of color to reduce isolation and increase opportunity for collegial support,” the policy reads.

Before the vote on Dec. 7, board members denied that the policy of placing teachers at different work sites based on their race would amount to segregation.

“When you’re one [minority] of a [white] majority it can be very isolating and lonely. To have a support system in place for them is not to segregate them, it is absolutely to support them,” board member Erin Roberts said. "My biggest fear is that we are going to lose talent because of the feeling of being unsupported by those within our district."

"It’s not about trying to throw the few [BIPOC] individuals we have into one building. It’s about showing them they aren’t alone,” she continued.

"It creates global citizens at the end of the day," Vice Chairman Kenneth Reid added.

Border Patrol official’s tweet about ‘potential terrorist’ arrest deleted

A tweet posted last week by a Border Patrol official that included a photo of a man described as a “potential terrorist” ​was taken down because Customs and Border Protection said it contained “law enforcement sensitive information,” according to a report Tuesday.

CBP spokesman Luis Miranda said in a statement to Fox News that the posting was removed because “it contained law enforcement sensitive information, violating agency protocols.”

“All individuals encountered at or between U.S. ports of entry are screened and vetted against a broad range of law enforcement and intelligence information to determine if they pose a threat to national security or public safety, consistent with the law,” ​Miranda’s ​statement said.

​The CBP rep added that the investigation is ongoing and “following its standard protocols.”

​​”This may include referral, if appropriate, to other relevant law enforcement entities for further investigation and a custody determination​,” the statement said.

​​It didn’t specify what information was considered sensitive.
