Asheville, NC โ€” U.S. Forest Service researchers recently received the Source Water Protection Award from the NC Source Water Collaborative (NCSWC). The award was for their valuable research contributions in the education category of โ€œDefining and understanding how forests protect watersheds and source water.โ€

 

The award recognizes the group for their long-term water research contributions and for sharing those with water managers across the state. โ€œItโ€™s great that North Carolina recognizes our contributions to water research and education,โ€ says Ge Sun.

 

The award was presented to forest researchers that are located throughout North Carolina: Research hydrologists Pete Caldwell, Chelcy Miniat, and Kitty Elliot located at the Coweeta Hydrological Lab, Otto, N.C.; research hydrologist Ge Sun and research ecologist Steve McNulty at Eastern Forest Environmental Threat Assessment Center, Raleigh, N.C.; and, co-leaders Jim Vose and Dave Wear at the Center for Integrated Forest Science, Raleigh, N.C.
