Asheville, NC — U.S. Forest Service researchers recently received the Source Water Protection Award from the NC Source Water Collaborative (NCSWC). The award was for their valuable research contributions in the education category of “Defining and understanding how forests protect watersheds and source water.”
The award recognizes the group for their long-term water research contributions and for sharing those with water managers across the state. “It’s great that North Carolina recognizes our contributions to water research and education,” says Ge Sun.
The award was presented to forest researchers that are located throughout North Carolina: Research hydrologists Pete Caldwell, Chelcy Miniat, and Kitty Elliot located at the Coweeta Hydrological Lab, Otto, N.C.; research hydrologist Ge Sun and research ecologist Steve McNulty at Eastern Forest Environmental Threat Assessment Center, Raleigh, N.C.; and, co-leaders Jim Vose and Dave Wear at the Center for Integrated Forest Science, Raleigh, N.C.
