I believe the strategy is to get them to arrest Trump. They will not do that until they feel that he is isolated enough (appear weak when you are strong). Cruz just used their double-speak against them on the public stage. They have no choice but to gleefully agree with him publicly, since they set the narrative that 1.6 was on par with 9.11. When it is revealed who was truly violent on that day, who planned it, what actually happened - it will be 100x worse for them. The end really won't be for everyone - not everyone can see deeper things (i believe that is also referenced in the Bible).
