SEATTLE — Dan Satterberg, the King County prosecutor, on Friday announced that he would not seek reelection to an office he has held for 16 years, paving the way for what could be a hotly contested race to succeed him.
The county's top prosecutor announced the decision internally before his office released a statement to the news media.
"After four terms, I have decided to not seek re-election this year," he said in a statement. "I have 358 days left in my term. I am determined to finish well. Over the next 12 months we will cement the gains and the innovations and adaptations from the last 15 years."
