Oprah and Obama Call Joe Manchin and Urge Him to Drop Filibuster and Pass Ballot Harvesting, Midnight Drop Boxes, No Voter ID Laws

Oprah, Barack Obama and Bill Clinton called Senator Joe Manchin and urged him to eliminate the filibuster to pass the Democrats’ ballot harvesting, midnight dropboxes and voter ID elimination legislation.

Democrats know this is the only way they can control the population is by stealing votes, stuffing boxes, and eliminating GOP observers, just like they did in 2020. As Rush Limbaugh said before he died — Democrats are tired of campaigning. They want to end elections.

By passing their “voter rights” bill they will never have to campaign ever again. They can sit at home and let their sleazy operatives do the work. Just like they do in California every year now.

The Daily Mail reported:

Sen. Joe Manchin is taking heat from all sides as he resists eliminating the last stalwart against the Democratic agenda, the filibuster, including some of the biggest names in America.

Manchin has told colleagues his phone has been lighting up with calls in recent days, including from former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton.

Though two former presidents and every Democrat in the Senate couldn’t budge the West Virginia senator, even TV host Oprah Winfrey phoned in to try to convince him to agree to filibuster reform, according to Politico.

Moderate Sens. Jon Tester, D-Mont., Tim Kaine, D-Va., and Angus King, I-Maine, were once leery of doing away with the 60-vote hurdle for fears of what Republicans would do if they took back the majority, but now are leading the campaign to sway the West Virginia Democrat.

Tester, Kaine and King have reportedly met with Manchin at least three dozen times to discuss filibuster reform, sometimes joined by other Democrats, according to participants.

Pentagon Further Tightens COVID Restrictions After Secretary Austin Tests Positive

The Department of Defense (DOD) on Friday tightened its COVID-19 restrictions in the midst of a rise in cases nationwide and days after Secretary Lloyd Austin tested positive for the virus.

Starting Jan. 10 at 5:00 a.m., the Pentagon will reduce its occupancy limit to 25 percent or fewer, while social distancing will stay at six feet. Personnel, including fully vaccinated people, will have to wear a mask indoors unless alone in an office, eating or drinking, or in several other circumstances, according to two memorandums issued by the DOD.

In a memo to staff (pdf), Deputy Defense Secretary Kathleen Hicks told all supervisors to use the maximum number of telework opportunities as well as flexible scheduling.

“It is my intent for you to comply with this limit to the fullest extent possible,” Hicks wrote in the directive.

“We are experiencing a rapidly evolving situation and your carefully considered requests for exception from the occupancy rate may be granted by the [Director of Administration and Management of the U.S. Department of Defense] but must be limited to mission-critical activities and must explain why alternatives to a higher occupancy rate are insufficient.”

DOD staff members’ “continued diligence and adherence to occupancy limits will aid in reducing the surge of new cases,” Hicks claimed.

For the past several months, the Pentagon operated under a directive that allows 40 percent of personnel to work in the building while the rest teleworked.

“Significant upward trends, the rise in positive case counts, including the current spread of the Omicron variant, as well as the consideration that the majority of our workforce is fully vaccinated, weighed heavily in the decision to adjust safety plans,” Michael Donley, the Director of Administration and Management, in a memo to senior Pentagon leadership, wrote in a separate memo (pdf).

Doctor Tells Health Minister ‘Science Isn’t Strong Enough’ to Enforce Mandatory Vaccination.

British Health Secretary Sajid Javid was caught off guard by a National Health Service doctor who told him on camera that the science behind mandatory COVID-19 vaccines “isn’t strong enough”.

Dr. Steve James – currently unvaccinated and working as a consultant anesthetist at the King’s College Hospital in London – told Javid that he has had COVID-19, has the antibodies for COVID-19, and has been working safely with patients since the beginning of the pandemic.

Dr. James was working on the intensive care unit when Javid asked him his thoughts on Britain’s new rules requiring vaccinations for NHS workers.

“I’m not happy about that. I had COVID at some point. I’ve got antibodies, and I’ve been working on COVID ICU since the beginning,” James replied, before saying, “I’ve not had a vaccination, I do not want a vaccination.”

He continued, “The vaccines are reducing transmission only for about eight weeks for Delta. With Omicron, it’s probably less. And for that, I would be dismissed if I don’t have a vaccine? The science isn’t strong enough.”

Kanye West and Jared Kushner get dinner in Miami, ‘no business agenda’

Old pals Kanye West and Jared Kushner met up for what appeared to be a power dinner in Miami on Thursday night, but a source told Page Six that business was off the table.

“It was a purely private dinner,” the insider exclusively told us. “No business agenda.”

The billionaire rapper, 44, and the former White House senior adviser, 40, were photographed together as a masked employee let them out of the exit of the Italian celebrity hotspot Carbone in Miami Beach.

West wore a bright highlighter-yellow hoodie for the outing, while Kushner kept his look more subdued with a long-sleeve black sweater.

Carbone appears to be a favorite dining spot for West — who now goes by Ye. He took new fling Julia Fox to the Miami branch for their first date on New Year’s Day, and the couple then dined at the New York location for their first rendezvous in the Big Apple.

However, it appears that the “Heartless” rapper left his new lady behind for his most recent trip down south. On Wednesday, a source told us that Fox was photographed outside of West’s hotel in NYC just as West jetted off to catch a private flight.

The Yeezy CEO apparently had a boys’ night in mind for his meetup with Kushner, as the investor’s wife, Ivanka Trump, also was not present for the dinner Thursday.

Kushner previously revealed that he and West actually go way back.

After the pair got together in Telluride, Colo., in August 2020, Kushner shared that he’s been friends with the “Jesus Walks” rapper for more than a decade.

“Unlike others, I’m able to keep friendships across the aisle,” he told Fox News at the time.

Kushner also gave a bit of insight into their friendship at the time, sharing that while they had discussed policy a bit, they also talked about a book on empowering black Americans that the music mogul had sent him.

“Kanye sent me a book about a month ago called ‘PowerNomics‘ … I read the book,” the real estate developer said. “It was absolutely phenomenal, it actually incorporated a lot of the things that President Trump has been doing.”

West has also been on friendly terms with Kushner’s father-in-law, Donald Trump, and even received a lot of heat for wearing the former POTUS’ signature “Make America Great Again” hat.

Citi To Fire All Unvaxx'd Unless They Comply With Mandate By Jan 14

Citigroup has just become the first Wall Street megabank to give the anti-vaxxers among its 70K employees an ultimatum: either get vaccinated (and turn over the appropriate proper documentation), or find somewhere else to work.

As Wall Street banks struggle to find a strategy to bring workers back to the office without putting them at risk of getting COVID, the bank has decided that Citi employees who don't comply with this mandate by Jan. 14 will be placed on unpaid leave, and their last day of employment will come at the end of the month, according to a message to Citigroup staff seen by Bloomberg.

This is by far the most restrictive requirement among Wall Street firms. But whether or not it will help the financial services industry bring workers back to the office more quickly remains to be seen.

Fact Check: Justice Breyer Suggests Vaccines, Masks Would Prevent 100% of Coronavirus Infections

CLAIM: Vaccine mandates and masks would prevent all of the 750,000 daily new coronavirus cases in the current surge.

VERDICT: PARTLY FALSE. While vaccines and masks would prevent many cases, they do not prevent all transmission.

On Friday, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments to consider a stay against the Biden administration’s vaccine mandates on large private employers. Under the rule, enforced by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the federal government would impose a vaccine mandate for the first time, with a “mask-and-test” alternative for unvaccinated workers.

Justice Samuel Alito questioned U.S. Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar about whether there would be a grave danger if the Court were to mull over the various arguments for and against the mandates for several days before issuing a decision — especially given that the federal government had waited months to enforce the mandates after issuing them in November.

Prelogar admitted that the Court had the power to use an “administrative stay,” whereupon Justice Breyer intervened:

So if we delay that one day — maybe I’m wrong, and please tell me if I am — but the numbers I read is when they issued this order, there were approximately 70-something-thousand new cases every day. And yesterday, there were close to 750,000. So if we delay it a day, if it were to have effect, then 750,000 more people will have COVID who otherwise, if we didn’t delay it, would not have. I mean, I don’t doubt the power of the Court to issue a stay, I am just saying, what are the consequences of that? And if I am wrong, you better tell me I’m wrong, because that it really did make a difference.

Breyer is probably correct that it would make a “difference,” but not that it would prevent 750,000 new cases. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) notes that “since vaccines are not 100% effective at preventing infection, some people who are fully vaccinated will still get COVID-19.” It adds: “Getting vaccinated is the best way to slow the spread of COVID-19 and to prevent infection by Delta or other variants.” It notes that wearing masks in indoor public spaces offers “better” protection against the spread of coronavirus, but does not say that masks prevent all possible viral transmission.

Rates of infection were 474.81 per 100,000 population among the unvaccinated as of November 2021, and 99.70 per 100,000 among the vaccinated — nearly five times smaller, though not zero. The omicron variant is thought to be more infectious.

Moreover, the OSHA mandate would only apply in large private workplaces, not in other settings where transmission could occur.

UPDATE: Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor also claimed that vaccinated people cannot transmit the coronavirus.

Sotomayor is being criticized in social media for making several factually dubious claims during the oral arguments:
