Calvin Simon, a founding member of Parliament-Funkadelic, died on Thursday. He was 79.
Legendary P-Funk bassist Bootsy Collins announced Simon’s death on Instagram. “We lost another original member of Parliament/Funkadelic,” he wrote. “A friend, bandmate & a cool classic guy, Mr. Calvin Simon was a former member of Parliament/Funkadelic.”

In a shocking development, Mahesh Babu's elder brother and actor Ghattamaneni Ramesh Babu passed away on Saturday, i.e. January 8. The actor breathed his last at the age of 56. Film producer BA Raju confirmed the unfortunate news through his Twitter handle. According to the reports in the media, Ramesh Babu was suffering from liver-related problems for a long time. FAMU Hall of Famer Bobby Lang passes away
Rattler Nation has lost a member of its FAMUly as Hall of Famer Bobby Lang passed away.
He was 87.
"We are saddened to lose a member of the FAMUly and send our deepest condolences to the Lang family," FAMU Director of Athletics Kortne Gosha said.
"Bobby did so much for Florida A&M and HBCUs with his success showing that HBCUs can compete at the highest level. We ask that Rattler Nation keep the Lang family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."
Known by fellow coaches and athletes as a "strong disciplinarian," Lang's coaching acumen and leadership skills were noticed by the legendary coach and athletic director, A.S. "Jake" Gaither, who hired him in 1966, to be the head track coach, assistant football coach and professor of Health, Physical Education and Recreation.
As the track coach at FAMU, Lang was credited with producing one U.S. Olympian, several All-Americans, and nationally ranked teams during his 33-year tenure.

Moti Dadlani, Vishal Dadlani's father, died on Friday. Because he tested positive for Covid-19 a day before his death, the singer-composer was unable to be with him in his final moments.
Sharing a photo of his father on Instagram, Vishal said that he is ‘completely lost’ without him. “Shri Moti Dadlani (12 May 1943-8 Jan 2022). Lost my best friend, the nicest and kindest man on earth, last night. I couldn’t have asked for a better Father, or a better person to be my teacher for life. Anything good in me is just a pale reflection of him,” he wrote.
Vishal expressed regret for not being able to be with his mother at this difficult moment. “He was in ICU for the last 3/4 days, but I couldn’t go from yesterday on because I tested positive for Covid. I can’t even go hold my Mother in her most difficult time. It’s really not fair. I don’t know how to live in a world without him. I’m completely lost,” he wrote.

FORMER NJPW STAR STRONG KOBAYASHI PASSES AWAY
In Memoriam: Shozo ‘Strong’ Kobayashi (1940-2021)
Shozo Kobayashi, better known to wrestling fans as “Strong” Kobayashi in IWE, WWWF and NJPW rings, passed away on December 31 2021, it was announced yesterday. He was 81.
A dedicated wrestling fan who got involved in weight lifting at a young age before working for Japan National Railways, Kobayashi was scouted in 1966 by the pioneering International Wrestling Enterprise organization at a body building event. He made his professional debut in 1967 as ‘Masked Taro’, notable for being the first masked Japanese wrestler in history.
Yet it was in 1968 Kobayashi would unmask, and take up the ring name of Strong Kobayashi. Quickly becoming the ace of IWE, Kobayashi would feud with the top worldwide stars of the day, including a young Andre the Giant. He also plied his trade in rings across Europe and the US, including what was then the WWWF (now WWE).
February 1974 saw Kobayashi leave IWE, and in March, he shocked the nation by appearing in New Japan Pro-Wrestling to challenge Antonio Inoki to a match at Kuramae Sumo Hall. This dream encounter between two of Japan’s biggest stars for the NWF title sold out the venue and led to huge television ratings.
Kobayashi joined NJPW full time in 1975, and was a main event star, notably teaming with Seiji Sakaguchi to lift the NWA North American Tag Team Championships. Kobayashi continued to wrestle NJPW’s elite, until suffering from back injury in 1981. Unable to return to the ring, he formally retired on August 26 1984.
Kobayashi still delighted millions in the decades to come. His charisma and uncanny comic timing made him a television favourite under the name Strong Kongo. Among other hugely successful programs, he appeared as the villain in international cult classic Takeshi’s Castle from 1986.
The thoughts and deepest sympathies of New Japan Pro-Wrestling go to Kobayashi’s family, friends and fans.

Former Morgan City police chief passes away at 82
MORGAN CITY, La. (KLFY) -The Morgan City Police Department announced that former Police Chief Claude James “Jim” Christy, 82, has passed away.
Christy served as the chief of police from 2002 until 2009. Current Police Chief James Blair extended heartfelt condolences to the family on Facebook Wednesday.
According to his obituary, Christy was a Morgan City native who attended Sacred Heart School and LSU, before becoming a Marine Corps officer and an agent and supervisor in Washington, DC, for the FBI. Following three decades with the FBI, Christy headed security for Hill Behan Lumber Co., before becoming police chief.
Visitation was held at Bopp Chapel in Kirkwood, Mo., on Wednesday, January 5. Christy will be laid to rest in Morgan City, according to Bopp Chapel.

Allan Larson, Father of Jonathan Larson, Has Passed Away
BroadwayWorld is saddened to report that Allan Larson, the father of late playwright and composer Jonathan Larson, has died.
Allan, along with his late wife Nanette, and daughter Julie, created the Jonathan Larson Performing Arts Foundation following the playwright's death in 1996. From 1997 to 2008, the foundation awarded grants to musical theatre composers, lyricists and book writers. Following the 2008 grants, the program was shifted to the American Theatre Wing, where it continues as the Jonathan Larson Grants.
Allan Larson's death was announced on Twitter by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who directed the Netflix adaptation of Jonathan Larson's autobiographical musical, tick, tick…BOOM!
"Faced with unimaginable loss, he made his son's legacy his life's work," Miranda wrote. "For years, anywhere Jon's work premiered in the world, Al would be there to tell the assembled casts about his son Jonathan. Rest in peace, Al. Thank you for your trust & friendship. Miss you already."

Siegfried Buerling, the man behind Hale Farm & Village and Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad, dies
Some may not recognize his name.
But there's a pretty good chance they've either visited or enjoyed his handiwork over the years.
Siegfried Friedel Buerling died Dec. 30 at his Akron home. He was 89.
Born in Germany in 1932, Buerling came to the United States in 1959 via Canada where he resided for four years and met his late wife, Heidi.
Like his father, Buerling was a woodworker; he took a temporary maintenance job with the Western Reserve Historical Society shortly after arriving in Cleveland with Heidi and started a family.
This job became his career and a vocation that would go on to touch countless lives through the historic sites and attractions he helped shape in Northeast Ohio, including a replica canal boat that bears his name.
In the 1960s, he was tasked with taking over a sleepy historic farm the society had acquired in Bath Township.

Larry Gerbrandt, Veteran Media and Entertainment Research Analyst, Dies at 69
Larry Gerbrandt, a veteran research analyst, valuation expert and consultant for media and entertainment companies, died Thursday in his sleep at his home in Aromas, Calif., a family spokesman said. He was 69.
Gerbrandt worked for such companies as Paul Kagan’s Kagan World Media as a senior analyst and senior vice president in its entertainment division; AlixPartners, where he led its entertainment consulting and litigation support practice; and Nielsen Analytics, for which he authored studies on the future of on-demand content over broadband and wireless networks.
More recently, he co-founded Media Valuation Partners, a custom research, litigation support and valuation practice.
Gerbrandt also served as a valuation expert for Disney in its landmark Katzenberg v. Disney suit that was settled in 1999, and he testified in rate-setting proceedings involving music performing rights organizations, Library of Congress copyright arbitration tribunals and FCC cable network carriage disputes.
He wrote a “Media Math” column for The Hollywood Reporter before its relaunch as a weekly in late 2010 and was a member of the board of directors of the INSP cable network.
Survivors include his wife, Margo; children Ryan (and his wife, Leslie) and Lauren (and her husband, Ethan); and grandchildren Nathan, Anistyn, Grayson and Wyatt.
