GRAPHIC: Cartel Gunmen Dump 9 Bodies in Coastal State, Implicate Government Officials

A group of gunmen left nine bodies on the side of the road with a banner threatening top government officials from the coastal state of Veracruz for supporting the Sinaloa Cartel. An interrogation video hinted that one of the victims was the nephew of the Veracruz Secretary of State.

Officials found the gruesome crime scene on Friday morning along a highway in a rural part of Veracruz. A government news release did not provide details of the murders but claimed that security forces had been deployed to the region to restore peace.

Leaked photographs of the naked bodies revealed that the victims had been beaten in the buttocks area with some type of paddle. Next to the piled-up bodies, the gunmen left a green poster board with a message threatening the Veracruz Secretary of State Erick Cisneros Burgos for his alleged role in supporting the Sinaloa Cartel in the region. The banner was signed by “Las Cuatro Letras” or The Four Letters, a reference to Cartel Jalisco New Generation (CJNG).

By Friday afternoon gunmen from CJNG leaked a video on social media where they show a group of ten people kneeling and with their hands on their heads surrounded by gunmen. It remains unknown if all of the victims that appeared in the video were murdered. In that video, one of the victims claims to be Erik Alejandro Roca Aranda, a nephew of Cisneros Burgos. The victim goes on to say that he and his uncle worked with the Sinaloa Cartel to facilitate their operations in the region. Roca Aranda claimed that his uncle paid him $5 million pesos ($245,000USD) to recruit gunmen for the Sinaloa Cartel to heat up the plaza.

According to the victim, his uncle was at odds with the Veracruz State Public Security Secretary Hugo Gutierrez Maldonado, who refused to side with Sinaloa and was not taking a side in the turf war. The plan was to have sicarios stir up violence in the region to cause problems for Gutierrez Maldonado.

The state of Veracruz has a long history of cartel violence that government officials have not been able to control. Even after Governor Cuitlahuac Garcia who hails from the same party as current Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO) took office in 2018, cartel violence has continued to escalate in Veracruz.

The gruesome discovery comes just one day after a group of unknown gunmen left ten bodies inside an SUV outside of the governor’s palace in the state of Zacatecas, Breitbart Texas reported. That state is yet another front of the turf war between the Sinaloa Cartel and CJNG.

Saudi Media Ministry Hires Former Producer for US Anchor Katie Couric for PR Campaign

A former producer for US news anchor Katie Couric has taken a new job with Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Media, according to a disclosure filed with the US Department of Justice.

According to the filing made under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) on Monday, Couric’s former producer told the DOJ that she had been working for Thiqah Business Services for much of the previous year. The firm is 100% owned by the Saudi government, according to the city marketing portal Eye of Riyadh, which notes it is “owned by Saudi Authority for Accredited Valuers (TAQEEM), and Saudi Organization for Certified Public Accountants (SOCPA).”

She received $15,000 in retainer payments from the firm in both November and December of 2021, but the filing noted no other information about compensation. A copy of the contract for her freelance services that was included in the filing was dated May 29, 2021.

According to the filing, Nicolla Hewitt “will perform general public relations and media outreach services, including outreach to broadcast, print, and social media about the changing way of life in Saudi Arabia.”

The ministry’s website says it “works in an active role by identifying and preserving the Saudi identity, spreading Islamic values in the Saudi citizen's life, expressing the achievements of Saudi Arabia. The Ministry contributes to raise the awareness and roles that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia doing.”

The Saudi monarchy has long leaned on Western consulting firms to manage its public relations, especially after launching the catastrophic war against the Yemeni Houthi movement in 2015. In the six months following the outbreak of war, the Saudi embassy in Washington, DC, paid French consulting firm Qorvis Communications $7 million in PR services, according to The Intercept. It has retained the firm since 2002.

Hewitt worked as a producer for Couric at many of the major US corporate television news outlets over the years, including NBC, CBS, and Yahoo, until 2014, according to her LinkedIn profile. She also worked at ABC for a time. However, in 2008 she also started her own firm, Nicolla Hewitt Communications.

UK army deployed to hospitals

Around 200 British soldiers have been deployed to London NHS hospitals amid severe staffing shortages that have put patient care at risk

Military medics have been tasked with aiding the NHS after at least 24 hospital trusts declared critical incidents, amid staffing shortages that risk compromising their ability to care for patients and provide priority services.

The Ministry of Defence confirmed on Friday that 200 military personnel will be deployed for the next three weeks to fill gaps caused by staff having to self-isolate due to a Covid infection or coming into contact a positive case.

The bulk of the force will be stationed in London hospitals, with the city having been hit particularly hard by the Omicron outbreak, pushing medical services beyond their limits. It comes as the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) told the government that it can no longer deny the NHS is facing a “staffing crisis.”

Alongside the military medics in hospitals, the British army will provide 32 co-responders to aid the South Central Ambulance Service until the end of March. This follows reports that some patients suffering suspected strokes or heart attacks are having to ask relatives to drive them to hospital due to long wait times for ambulances.

“The prime minister and others can no longer be dismissive of questions about the ability of NHS staff to deliver safe care,” the RCN’s England director Patricia Marquis said.

Quantico Rings Up $188 Million Bill for Afghan Refugees Housed in Tents

Thousands of Afghans briefly called Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia home after fleeing a Taliban takeover in August.

The last of those 3,755 refugees were resettled elsewhere in the U.S. just days before Christmas, leaving only an empty, impromptu village of tents and barracks rooms on the base – and a $188 million bill for the Marine Corps and the Pentagon.

The cost of the housing effort reported this week by the Defense Department inspector general is a snapshot of Operation Allies Welcome, the mission of eight stateside bases to host 67,000 Afghan refugees airlifted out of Kabul at the end of August when the U.S. military ended all operations in Afghanistan after a 20-year war.

The U.S. embrace of Afghans was emotional, painful and uneven as service members and civilians grappled with the war's legacy, and many worried allies would be left behind to face Taliban retribution. But the financial cost is also set to soar into the billions of dollars, sparking political opposition on Capitol Hill.

Congress has already approved $13.3 billion for the resettlement effort, which includes money for the Pentagon as well as the State Department and Department of Homeland Security. But it repeatedly had to overcome Republican opposition.

The first half of the money was included in a stopgap budget measure in September to keep the government funded after challenges by Republicans who wanted to put restrictions on the refugee spending. The second installment of $7 billion was passed Dec. 3 in another stopgap bill.

"Now Democrats want another $7 billion for the Afghan resettlement process on top of the $6 billion they have already spent in the last three months. For reference, Oklahoma's total budget is $8.83 billion – for a state of 4 million people," Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., said in a statement when the funding legislation was passed in December.

Quantico had been reimbursed $138 million of its $188 million cost by the Defense Department by the time the last bill passed Congress and was signed by President Joe Biden, according to the DoD inspector general report.

Seven additional bases provided housing for the refugees following the Aug. 30 withdrawal from Afghanistan: Fort Lee and Fort Pickett, Virginia; Fort McCoy, Wisconsin; Fort Bliss, Texas; Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey; Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico; and Camp Atterbury, Indiana.

Afghans are still staying at five of those bases, Maj. Meg Harper, media chief for U.S. Northern Command, wrote in an email Friday.

The DoD inspector general is planning to audit the department's entire housing effort, and the report this week is the first installment in a series.

The task force set up at Quantico included 924 DoD personnel, who had planned for a maximum of 5,000 refugees to move through the base on their way to permanent resettlement in communities across the U.S., according to the IG, which sent personnel to the base in September and followed up in December.

Afghans were moved into housing at Camp Upshur, an old officer candidate school used in the 1980s. The task force contracted for a second encampment of two massive tents, one capable of housing 2,000 refugees and the other, 1,000.

The "third encampment, named Pioneer City, consisted of 80 Marine Corps general purpose tents and was capable of housing 1,000 Afghan evacuees," the report found.

’Coincidence?’ US, Foreign NGOs May Have Played Key Role in Social Unrest in Kazakhstan, Expert Says

Generous funding from international non-government organizations (NGOs) and the US government has played a key role in the social unrest that has gripped Kazakhstan in recent days, Executive Vice President of Eurasia Group Earl Rasmussen told Sputnik on Friday.

The beginning of 2022 in Kazakhstan was marked by the outbreak of riots in the streets of Almaty, which was presumably caused by a two-fold increase in the price of liquefied gas in the country after the abolition of state subsidies. Attempts to pacify the angry crowds were unsuccessful and the rally quickly turned into a political manifestation, accompanied by violent attacks on law enforcement officers and pogroms of state institutions in a number of Kazakh cities.

"The official story is that [it is] due to the elimination of gas price controls, which resulted in approximately a $1 per gallon increase in gas (LNG). If these are the real reasons for the unrest, perhaps we should be rioting here [in the US] as well," Rasmussen said.

The International Center for Not-for-Profit Law (ICNL) estimates there are 38,000 active NGOs in Kazakhstan while the majority of them is funded by the United States and European countries by way of grants and donations.

"[I]t appears that the US funds and foreign NGOs have done quite well based on the uneasiness within the country," Rasmussen said. "Moreover, the UK has over 85 NGOs also present in Kazakhstan and have provided significant funding to provide "civil society and rule of law."

The most active participants in the political and social processes in Kazakhstan are such entities as the US Agency for International Development (USAID), the National Endowment for Democracy, the American Bar Association, Freedom House and many others, Rasmussen added.

The National Endowment for Democracy alone spent more than $1 million to support democratic processes and human rights movements in Kazakhstan in 2020, according to data published by the organization. The recipients of the funds in Kazakhstan worked to raise the level of youth’s engagement into social and political processes, support the allegedly independent mass media, as well as to protect civil society institutions.

US, NATO Reject Russia’s Call for Halt of Eastward Expansion

Russia is seeking guarantees that Ukraine won't join NATO

On Friday, the US and NATO rejected a Russian call for the military alliance to halt its eastward expansion.

Amid tensions around Ukraine, Russia submitted a series of security proposals to the US, and chief among the Russian requests is a guarantee that Ukraine won’t join NATO.

“NATO never promised not to admit new members; it could not and would not,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken said after a virtual meeting of NATO’s foreign ministers.

NATO Secretary-General made similar comments earlier in the day. “We will not compromise on core principles, including the right for every nation to decide its own path, including what kind of security arrangements it wants to be a part of,” he said.

US and Russian officials are due to meet in Geneva on January 10th to discuss Ukraine and other issues, and NATO will hold talks with Moscow on January 12th. Blinken accused Russia of making unreasonable demands in an attempt to sabotage diplomacy.

“Certainly part of [Putin’s] playbook is to put out a list of absolutely non-starter demands and then to claim that the other side is not engaging and then use that as somehow justification for aggressive action,” Blinken said.

Ukraine has been a prospective NATO member since 2008 and cooperates with the alliance on military exercises. Ukraine’s ascent into NATO was never a concern when Viktor Yanukovych was president from 2010 to 2014. But after he was ousted in a US-backed coup, US and NATO cooperation with Ukraine has increased significantly.

Since the 2014 coup, the US has provided Ukraine with over $2 billion in military aid. US and NATO now regularly patrol the Black Sea, and Western warplanes are constantly flying in the area.

US Army soldier found dead in Alaska

A U.S. Army soldier was found dead in Fairbanks, Alaska on Dec. 30, the service first revealed late Friday.

The Army told American Military News in an email that first responders were alerted of a CPR in progress in North Pole, according to an Alaska State Troopers dispatch. After 35 minutes of efforts to save the soldier’s life, Master Sgt. Wesley Woods, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division was declared dead.

Originally from Horn Lake, Mississippi, Woods joined the Army in July 2001. He was previously based at Fort Irwin, California; Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington; Fort Benning, Georgia; Fort Riley, Kansas; and Fort Wainwright. The 40-year-old also served combat tours in Djibouti and Iraq.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Master Sgt. Woods,” Lt. Col. Matthew B. Chase, 70th Brigade Engineer Battalion commander, said in a statement. “He was a dedicated, servant leader who made a tremendous impact during his time in the Arctic Wolf Brigade and through this career in the Army. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to his family and all those that cared for him at this time.”

During his service, Woods earned a number of awards and decorations, including two awards of the Meritorious Service Medal, four awards of the Army Commendation Medal, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, seven awards of the Army Achievement Medal, six awards of the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terror Service Medal, the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Drill Sergeant Identification Badge, the Expert Infantry Badge and the Parachutist Badge.

Officials with the Alaska State Troopers and the Army Criminal Investigation Division are investigating Woods’ cause of death.

In late November, two more U.S. Army Alaska soldiers were found dead in their vehicles over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in separate incidents.

Shareholders Press Google and YouTube To Disclose White House Requests To Scrub COVID-19 Videos

Big Tech under fire for removing content that questions Biden administration COVID policies

Shareholders in Google and YouTube are pressing the tech giants to disclose any requests they have received from the Biden administration to scrub politically "problematic" information from the platforms, according to a copy of a shareholder proposal obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.

The National Legal and Policy Center, an ethics watchdog group that holds a voting stake in Google and YouTube's parent corporation Alphabet, submitted the shareholder proposal to the company this week, following a string of controversies over Google and YouTube's removal of videos that question the Biden administration's COVID-19 policies.

The proposed disclosure requirement could shed light on whether the administration has directed tech companies to remove information that it deems misleading, a scenario that raises concerns about government censorship. In July, the White House said it was "in regular touch" with social media platforms to discuss ways to combat "misinformation" online.

"The case for this kind of disclosure is double barreled. All citizens should be aware when the government engages in censorship, even if it is through a private-sector company, and shareholders of that company should know when they become a party to it," said NLPC chairman Peter Flaherty.

"The administration keeps labeling certain information about the pandemic ‘disinformation,' and gets it yanked off social media, only to later embrace the same information. Alphabet should not be contributing to such a farce."

If the proposal is approved by a shareholder vote—a significant hurdle since the company's voting shares are largely controlled by its founders and insiders—Alphabet would be required to "provide a report, published on the company's website and updated semi-annually—and omitting proprietary information and at reasonable cost—that specifies the Company's policy in responding to requests to remove or take down material from its platforms by the Executive Office of the President, Centers for Disease Control, or any other agency or entity of the United States Government," according to a copy of the NLPC's submission.

Alphabet would also have to disclose "an itemized listing of such take-down requests, including the name and title of the official making the request, the nature and scope of the request, the date of the request, the outcome of the request, and a reason or rationale for the Company's response, or lack thereof."

The NLPC said coordination between Alphabet and the Biden administration could amount to "unconstitutional censorship, opening the Company to liability claims by victims," citing Supreme Court rulings "that private entities may not engage in suppression of speech at the behest of government, as it has the same effect as direct government censorship."

Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte this week directed officials to arrest unvaccinated individuals who leave their homes, claiming the national emergency posed by COVID-19 justified the extreme measure.

Speaking to the nation via television on Thursday, Duterte said that he was “giving orders to the [village chiefs] to look for those persons who are not vaccinated and just request them or order them, if you may, to stay put,” according to the Hill.

“And if he refuses and goes out of the house and goes around in the community or maybe everywhere, he can be restrained. If he refuses then the [official] is empowered to arrest the recalcitrant persons,” Duterte added.

Unvaccinated citizens are reportedly allowed to leave their homes in that country only for essential visits.

The Philippines has been known for the past two years for its extreme, uncompromising COVID-19 policies, with mitigation measures there at times being among the strongest in the world.

COVID cases there have skyrocketed in recent weeks, though they have not yet broken earlier records set late last year.

Israeli citizen killed in Kazakhstan riots

The Foreign Ministry cautioned Israeli citizens about travelling to Kazakhstan due to the ongoing violent uprising.

A 22-year-old Israeli man named Levan Kogeashvili was killed in Almaty, Kazakhstan on Friday during a violent protest, Israel's Foreign Ministry announced.

Kogeashvili was struck by gunfire near his home while driving to work, Rostislav Edelstein, a friend of Kogeashvili’s family, told Walla. He said that Kogeashvili was taken to a hospital but attempts to revive him failed. Two Kazakhstanis in the vehicle were lightly injured. Edelstein said that Kogeashvili was not involved in the civil unrest that has gripped the central Asian state for several days.

Kogeashvili’s family immigrated to Israel in the 1990s, where he was born, according to Walla. He was raised in Ashdod, but completed his secondary studies in Kazakhstan. Edelstein told Walla that over a year ago Kogeashvili had married a Jewish Kazakhstani woman, and the couple has a young son around half a year old.

The MFA is in contact with his parents in Kazakhstan and family in Israel and is assisting in the transfer of his body to Israel for burial, the ministry said. The MFA expressed that it is mourning Kogeashvili’s loss, and requested that Israelis heed its previous statements advising against non-essential visits. The MFA is not yet recommending that Israelis leave the country.

On Thursday, the MFA said in a statement from its consular affairs division that "Israeli citizens considering coming to the country are advised to exercise extra caution and avoid non-essential visits to the country. Further, Israeli citizens residing in the country are advised to refrain from attending mass gatherings, restrict movements and travel, including moving from work from home if possible, and follow government guidelines."

The statement was coupled with a submission form for Israelis in Kazakhstan to provide their details to the Israeli embassy in Kazakhstan.

Houthis Share Footage & Documents Confirming Saudi-led Coalition Shipped Weapons On Seized UAE Vessel

On January 8, the Houthis (Ansar Allah) released photos, a video and documents confirming that the Saudi-led coalition shipped weapons on a UAE-flagged vessel that was recently seized by their fighters.

The cargo vessel, named “Rwabee,” was seized by Houthi fighters in the Red Sea off the coast of the Yemeni city of al-Hudaydah late on January 2.

Documents shared by the Houthis spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Sari, confirm that the vessel made at least six trips between the Yemeni island of Socotra and the Saudi Red Sea port of Jizan between November 5 and December 28 of last year.

The vessel shipped loads of weapons, ammunition and military equipment, including dozens of armored vehicles and several fast assault crafts.

Several Photos and a video, which were apparently found on the personal devices of the vessel’s detained crew, confirm the Houthis claims.

When Rwabee was first captured by the Houthis, the Saudi-led coalition claimed that the vessel was moving medical and health equipment from a dismantled Saudi field hospital in Socotra to the port of Jizan. Medical equipment was indeed found on the vessel. However, weapons were also found.

The seizure of the vessel was a major blow to the Saudi-led coalition who is apparently still struggling to secure Yemen’s waters.

They are easily influenced by deceptive claims in the mainstream media and are quickly driven to fear.

They frequently buy lottery tickets because they don’t understand math.

They tend to eat a lot of highly processed junk foods, and they think they’re saving money by purchasing processed foods with coupons rather than purchasing unrefined, unprocessed foods that actually deliver far more nutrition.

Their homes are filled with brand name garbage products like Tide laundry detergent, General Mills processed cereals, Chef Boyardee canned pasta, bottles of Pepsi, etc. They are 100% a product of television advertising and media propaganda. They like to buy a lot of “Swiffer” products which are just overpriced cleaning cloths and sponge mops.

They have very poor financial management skills and are perpetually “broke,” frequently experiencing catastrophes or crisis events that they always claim are “never their fault.”

They waste money on extremely low deductibles for car insurance because they don’t understand how insurance products are priced.

They think they need insurance for everything and obsess over buying more insurance policies for everything imaginable, including sometimes buying “travel life insurance” where they bet that they will die during an upcoming flight.

They are far more interested in acquiring health insurance than in taking care of their health. They are often in very poor health but refuse to change their habits to improve their health.

They LOVE booster shots and vaccines! They’re also huge fans of masks. They are the “Karens” of covid.

Goldman Sachs asks in biotech research report: ‘Is curing patients a sustainable business model?’

Goldman Sachs analysts attempted to address a touchy subject for biotech companies, especially those involved in the pioneering “gene therapy” treatment: cures could be bad for business in the long run.

“Is curing patients a sustainable business model?” analysts ask in an April 10 report entitled “The Genome Revolution.”

“The potential to deliver ‘one shot cures’ is one of the most attractive aspects of gene therapy, genetically-engineered cell therapy and gene editing. However, such treatments offer a very different outlook with regard to recurring revenue versus chronic therapies,” analyst Salveen Richter wrote in the note to clients Tuesday. “While this proposition carries tremendous value for patients and society, it could represent a challenge for genome medicine developers looking for sustained cash flow.”

Richter cited Gilead Sciences’ treatments for hepatitis C, which achieved cure rates of more than 90 percent. The company’s U.S. sales for these hepatitis C treatments peaked at $12.5 billion in 2015, but have been falling ever since. Goldman estimates the U.S. sales for these treatments will be less than $4 billion this year, according to a table in the report.

“GILD is a case in point, where the success of its hepatitis C franchise has gradually exhausted the available pool of treatable patients,” the analyst wrote. “In the case of infectious diseases such as hepatitis C, curing existing patients also decreases the number of carriers able to transmit the virus to new patients, thus the incident pool also declines … Where an incident pool remains stable (eg, in cancer) the potential for a cure poses less risk to the sustainability of a franchise.”

The analyst didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Provinces likely to make vaccination mandatory, says Canadian health minister

Canadian Health Minister Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos says vaccination remains the only way out of the pandemic. Stresses this is just his personal opinion but it sounds like a trial balloon to me.

"What we see now is that our health care system in Canada is fragile, our people are tired, and the only way that we know to get through COVID-19, this variant and any future variant, is through vaccination," Duclos said.

Duclos said that while rapid tests, masking and social distancing are useful tools, they won't end the pandemic on their own.

"Fifty per cent of hospitalizations now, in Quebec, are due to people not having been vaccinated," he said. "That's a burden on health care workers, a burden on society which is very difficult to bear and for many people difficult to understand.

"That's why I'm signalling this is a conversation which I believe provinces and territories, in support with the federal government, will want to have over the next weeks and months."

Duclos said that while discussions about mandatory vaccination policies are not taking place now, he believes that, based on his "personal understanding of what we see internationally and domestically and in my conversations [with] health ministers over the last few weeks," the discussion will start in the coming weeks or months.

He stressed that it's up to the provinces to decide whether to implement mandatory vaccination policies.

Foster, White House Counsel, and Bill and Hillary Clinton’s personal lawyer, who had come to Washington, D.C., after working closely with Hillary at the Rose Law Firm in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Foster’s body was found lying face up, head up on the side of a steep slope in Fort Marcy Park, an old Civil War structure in McLean Virginia—located only 8 minutes away from CIA headquarters—on a dirt path in front of an old cannon. With his head blood-stained, Foster was still clutching the .38 colt revolver he supposedly shot himself with, his thumb trapped by the trigger.

On the day of his death, Foster had left his office in the White House’s West Wing at 1 p.m. after eating lunch there. Supposedly, he jumped in his Honda, walked to a secluded corner of the park and killed himself.

Strangely, no one had seen Foster from the moment he had left the West Wing to the time his body was discovered—even though his face had been splashed across the news.

Also, no one heard the thunderous noise of a gunshot and police investigators initially did not find his car keys on him, raising questions about how he got to the park.

Vincent Scalice and Fred Santucci, New York City homicide detectives with 50 years combined experience who were hired by the Western Journalism Center to investigate the case, said that they had never seen a gun in a suicide placed in such an orderly manner and that under ordinary circumstances the gun was away from the person firing it—sometimes landing many feet away due to the force of the gunshot and reflexive actions of the victim.

In the Foster case also, they would have expected a huge pool of blood—a mess—when only a small trickle of blood was found running from his mouth.

The gun itself appeared clean—as if it had been wiped.

YouTube takes down music video critical of Joe Biden

An increasingly popular music video that used images of Taliban violence and slammed President Biden over the withdrawal from Afghanistan was taken down by YouTube.

Grammy-nominated singer John Ondrasik, whose “Blood on My Hands” racked up more than 250,000 views, claimed the removal of the clip was an attack on free speech.

“I have just received notification that @YouTube has taken down the Blood on My Hands – White House Docu-Music video,” he said, while also sharing a longer statement about the incident. ‘

“Before posting, I placed a ‘Graphic Warning’ disclaimer at the front of the video to let the audience know that the content would not be suitable for younger audiences due to images of Taliban atrocities,” said Ondrasik. “YouTube reviewed the video and inserted a child content restriction which I appreciated and found appropriate.”

He then accused the website of reversing course after the video went viral, racking up more than 250,000 hits. Five days after he uploaded the song, the company said it was in violation of its “graphic content policy.”

FAA Will Impose Flight Restrictions On Some Flight Operations Over 5G

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) updated information Thursday, maintaining that U.S. 5G deployment will require the FAA to impose flight restrictions on flight operations using certain types of safety equipment that will perform in proximity to the 5G networks.

AT&T and Verizon agreed to delay the use of C-Band spectrum until Jan. 19, a move that was endorsed by the White House. This extension would give the FAA more time to study and evaluate how to minimize the disruption to radar altimeters, while preparing airline companies for any changes.

The telecom companies, which won access to almost all the C-Band spectrum in an $80-billion auction, had earlier agreed to adopt 5G deployment with similar precautions as that of France.

The crux of the issue lies in the fact that radar altimeters, an important piece of safety equipment used in aircraft, use frequencies close to C-band. 5G services use C-band radio spectrum frequencies between 3.7 and 4.2 GHz that may prove hazardous to flight safety. Altimeters assess the airplane’s height above the ground and inform other safety sensors within the craft like collision-avoidance systems and navigation instruments.

As the situation currently stands, the proposed 5G deployment would result in modifying flight schedules and altering other aspects of the aviation network. The FAA is working towards mitigating these disruptions as they investigate the precautionary measures needed to move forward.

Telecom companies have also agreed on positioning the related antennas away from the airports where the interference would be greatest, while the FAA tests out how the radar altimeters work in a 5G C-band environment.

When altimeters are discovered to work without interference, the corresponding restrictions on aircraft operations will be removed. This process will go on until more altimeters are certified safe, retrofitted or replaced.

On Friday, the FAA released a list (pdf) of 50 airports that will have 5G buffer zones like Austin-Bergstrom Intl, Los Angeles Intl, Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood Intl, San Francisco Intl, and Chicago O’Hare Intl. These zones are expected to reduce risks when the wireless companies turn on their 5G services.

Many other airports are not affected by the rollout as they are not located in the same region where 5G is being implemented and some do not have the ability to allow low-visibility landings, according to the FAA.

AT&T and Verizon will adjust their operations like turning off transmitters near sensitive airports for a period of six months to minimize risk and avoid interfering with safety systems. However, it remains to be seen how the 5G networks will coexist safely with flight traffic systems in the coming days.
