The Minnesota National Guard will operate the new community testing sites. They add to a host of testing options statewide, which include at-home saliva testing.

Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan said providing equitable access to tests is essential to combating the latest surge in cases.

โ€œBy collaborating with the National Guard, Minnesota schools, and community groups, we can make sure more Minnesotans can receive testing when they need it,โ€ Flanagan said in a statement.

Minnesota is now recording roughly 5,000 new coronavirus cases per day and test-positivity rates are expected to continue to climb. The state is currently reporting the results of about 40,000 tests per day on average.

The stateโ€™s rate of new cases is almost certainly an undercount because not everyone gets tested and at-home rapid tests are not tallied by the state.
