The monolith in 2001 represents the conspiracy, and the disgusting message is that "this thing is here at a moment of evolution, we are here to evolve you"
What that really means, is death. The baby at the end of the movie "new life", is there to represent the death that they have planned.

Because what he's really pointing out, is that these people do not behave like human beings.
Conspiracies can be penetrated. Someone will talk. Someone will always talk. But this one. This one is like a single stone. It is impenetrable. This is just not human. These forces he spoke of, diplomatic, finance, intelligence, and the intra-knit capacity in which they operate. It's not even human.
