A New York man upset with what he perceived as Donald Trump's threats to democracy was criminally charged on Monday with threatening to kill the former US president, who he once referred to as Hitler.
Thomas Welnicki, 72, was charged with threatening to kill, kidnap, and inflict bodily harm on Trump. Welnicki's lawyer says he was distraught about what he saw as Trump threatening democracy.

President nominates new chief for National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency
President Joe Biden has nominated career intelligence official Navy Vice Adm. Frank Whitworth to lead the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, the organization in charge of analyzing satellite imagery for the intelligence community.
Whitworth currently serves as director of intelligence for the Joint Staff, the body of top military officers that advises the president and other senior defense officials.
Prior to his current position, Whitworth served in several of intelligence roles, including commander of Joint Intelligence Center Central, director of intelligence for U.S. Africa Command, director of intelligence for Joint Special Operations Command and director of intelligence for maritime operations.
He also served as the commanding officer of both the Navy’s element of U.S. Central Command and the Kennedy Irregular Warfare Center.
