Professor Ehud Qimron, head of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Tel Aviv University and one of the leading Israeli immunologists, has written an open letter sharply criticizing the Israeli – and indeed global – management of the coronavirus pandemic.

You refused to admit that mass testing is ineffective, despite your own contingency plans explicitly stating so (“Pandemic Influenza Health System Preparedness Plan, 2007”, p. 26).

You refused to admit that recovery is more protective than a vaccine, despite previous knowledge and observations showing that non-recovered vaccinated people are more likely to be infected than recovered people. You refused to admit that the vaccinated are contagious despite the observations. Based on this, you hoped to achieve herd immunity by vaccination — and you failed in that as well.

You insisted on ignoring the fact that the disease is dozens of times more dangerous for risk groups and older adults, than for young people who are not in risk groups, despite the knowledge that came from China as early as 2020.

You refused to adopt the “Barrington Declaration”, signed by more than 60,000 scientists and medical professionals, or other common sense programs. You chose to ridicule, slander, distort and discredit them. Instead of the right programs and people, you have chosen professionals who lack relevant training for pandemic management (physicists as chief government advisers, veterinarians, security officers, media personnel, and so on).

Concerns over QR code claim from anti-vaxxer Monica Smit

An anti-vaxxer accused of inciting protests in Melbourne made some ‘concerning’ claims about QR codes, a court has heard.

A vocal anti-vaxxer accused of inciting protests during Melbourne’s lockdown made some concerning comments about QR code check-ins, a court has been told.

Monica Smit appeared before the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday for a virtual hearing.

She wanted to scrap bail conditions preventing her from breaching pandemic orders or inciting others.

The 33-year-old woman is the founder of Reignite Democracy Australia and is charged with two counts of incitement in relation to protests held in Melbourne on August 11 and 21, during the state’s sixth lockdown.

It was also revealed in court Ms Smit intended to fight her charges at a trial.

Prosecutor Pranaven Pathmaraj argued against scrapping the conditions because there was a risk of her reoffending and pointed to an online Q&A session where she was quizzed about being “armed” in relation to the pandemic.

Her response was that it wasn’t the right forum and she was consider talking about it in a separate “private” forum.

In another incident on New Year’s Eve there was a suggestion Ms Smit “was close to encouraging followers on the Reignite Democracy Australia’s chat not to follow QR check-ins”, Mr Pathmaraj said.

The woman “obviously” could exercise her right of political communication but her risk of breaching her conditions was higher than someone who could have chosen to distance themselves from these groups.

“She continues to engage in conduct which sails strikingly close to breaches of bail,” the prosecutor said.

But her lawyer Marcel White argued she complied with conditions for four months without incident, could be on bail under conditions for two years.

Mr White also argued it was a “peculiar” allegation of risk.

Ms Smit was initially granted bail in September 2021 after she was charged but refused to sign a bail order because of strict conditions including a curfew and the removal of some material from social media.

The Pakenham woman spent 22 days in custody until some of the “onerous” conditions were scrapped in the Supreme Court of Victoria.

“The conditions do provide an additional protection to the community and it is of some concern to me that Ms Smit seeks to have those conditions removed,” magistrate Jelena Popovic said.

She amended the conditions to reflect the pandemic orders but said it was up to the Supreme Court judge who initially granted bail to change any conditions.

Ms Smit will return to court at a later date.
