>could a GM worker afford college tuition on just two weeks work in….

income is NOT the only factor in that equation. in 1965, tuition for one semester full time student was LESS than a single textbook today. at one particular tier one major research university with which i am personally familiar, tuition for in-state students was LESS THAN $200 per semester. you read that right.

for the arithmetic challenged, it means the answer to the question is YES. a GM worker could earn (gross) enough for a full year's tuition in just a bit over TWO WEEKS.

>Utter BS on those labor prices.

no, not BS. $4/hr works out to $8800/yr working 40hr/wk. But that does NOT take into account overtime, which paid time-and-one-half, and which almost all factory workers took advantage of. my father's wage was actually under $4, but he earned $10,000 per year with overtime. so you can shove your "statistics" where they belong.

c'mon man, be fair. byrd was in the KKK like a hundred yrs ago. that photo is what, 20 yrs old? people CAN and DO change. byrd was in the senate forever because he did a LOT of good for his constituents in WV. they loved him. and guilt by association is what FASCISTS do.

> a hella long way from the $15/hr being claimed.

nice walkback, but what was claimed on THIS board, and specifically in the post you replied to, was $4/hr, not $15.

in 1968 when i got my first full time factory job, min wage was $1.80/hr in my state. gasoline was 18¢/gal. ONE HOUR of work paid for TEN GALLONS of gasoline. using that as a basis, min wage today OUGHT to be $37.50/hr.

in the sixties, one parent could support their family of 4-6 on a single income, the other parent could stay home to raise the children and handle the domestic work, in particular, cooking decent healthy wholesome meals to maintain good health and strong immune systems.

>CEOs were paid 351 times as much as a typical worker in 2020

IDK if it still stands, but not so long ago japan had a law which capped exec salaries at 160x the lowest paid employee of that company.

i'm NOT defending byrd or bidan or the lunatic left. just saying that the argument is specious. we cannot used flawed arguments and hope to win hearts & minds. otherwise it will come back to bite us on the ass. we have to be BETTER than them.

if it were up to me, i'd cap mgmt salaries at 10x the lowest paid worker. if a foreman on the floor called in sick, it screwed thing up bigly, and production suffered bigly. on the other hand, if the president or any of the sr mgmt skipped work for 6 months, thing would go on as normal (probably run smoother).

>This is due to privileged education and money.

FUCK YOU. educations are FREE. in my day they were call library cards from the public library. today, you have access to 10 million libraries on your desktop. don't give me any of that "privileged education" BULLSHIT. if anyone is ignorant and uneducated, it's because they are TOO FUCKING LAZY to educate themselves. you don't need schools or teachers to learn. that's part of the BIG LIE they feed you to keep you STOOPID. teachers CAN'T learn FOR you. the only things that are required is basic intelligence and the SELF-MOTIVATION to get off your lazy ass and start reading some fucking books.

>you think you could afford a oxford or Harvard education

now you're changing your argument and comparing apples and oranges. your OP was about being educated/uneducated. you claimed anons should cut posters with bad grammar some slack because they didn't have access to a "privileged education." you can get an EDUCATION as good or better than oxford or harvard at home, all by yourself, if you put forth the EFFORT. but in the first place, you don't need a harvard education to master simple grammar, spelling, punctuation, composition, etc. and now since i've demolished your pathetic attempt to play the victim card, you've switched from education to diploma. those have NOTHING to do with one another. some of the stupidest fuckwits on the planet have diplomas out their ass, while some of the most intelligent people have none. ultimately, if you can't master basic writing skills to post a minimally cogent reply, then your opinion isn't worth shit. go be a stupid nigger somewhere else.
